Contractors Segment

Risk Management Construction - Underwriter - Fully remote capable

Summary

Crum & Forster’s Contractors Segment is looking for a bright and energized individual with an entrepreneurial spirit to join our Risk Management Construction Department.  The individual would be responsible for sourcing new business accounts as defined in the Risk Management Construction appetite as well as having a basic understanding of financial statements of prospective clients. Additionally, this individual will need to build, maintain and service a profitable book of business under direct supervision of the VP of the Risk Management Construction Department.  This position will train with on the job and educational activities to build knowledge base, manage agency relationships through continued customer service and marketing activities, and collaborate with colleagues to achieve synergy between different business units.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

· Work with VP and or UW Director on active new and renewal business accounts learning loss sensitive underwriting

· Underwrite new business submissions that fit into the department’s appetite. This includes (but not limited to) proper exposure and operational analysis, review of loss     runs and loss trends, account pricing through actuarial modeling, coordinating with internal business partners (i.e. credit, claims) etc.

· Quarterback the Stewardship process for both prospect clients and existing clients. Entails coordinating pre-quote and post-bind meetings with the agent and client           including C&F Claims and Risk Engineering teams.  

· Meet the department’s profitability, retention, rate and gross written premium goals determined in the annual plan.

  • Adhere to the department’s internal processes. Also maintain proper account documentation.
  • Identify and develop new agencies for the department through marketing/sales efforts (physical visits, in-person event, calls, social media posts)
  • Effectively displays ability to build and foster relationships by managing assigned territory, agents, and accounts.
  • Participates in training to develop knowledge of department, products, and services within the department and across the C&F enterprise.
  • Assist and or lead various projects (i.e. product development, workflow innovation, etc.)
  • Travel requirement: As required
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Recommended Education & Requirements  

 

 

 ·  Bachelor's degree

·   Exposure in underwriting primary lines of business: workers’ compensation, general liability, auto physical damage.

·   Experience in construction underwriting, and excess/umbrella, preferred but not required

·   Strong communication, analytical skills, and business acumen

·   Energetic, driven, persistent  winning attitude

·   Excellent organizational and time management skills with a commitment to honesty, integrity and unwavering business ethics.

·   Continuing insurance industry designations desired (i.e. AINS, ARM, CPCU, etc.)

The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $65,000 to a maximum of $95,300. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range.
