Job Description

We offer a merit-based work-from-home program based on job responsibilities. After initial training in-person, this specific role could have the flexibility to work from home up to 3 days per week.

Auto-Owners Insurance, a top-rated insurance carrier, regularly has need of experienced and motivated Attorneys to join our team. The position requires the following, but is not limited to:

  • Analyze complex issues to determine possible exposure to damages and devise strategies for the successful resolution of disputes. In the context of claim file management, this involves making decisions and providing advice about claims against the Company’s insureds and/or the Company. In other contexts, this will focus on the propriety of Company positions.
  • Review of assigned matters to ensure that the Company meets all obligations and responsibilities to insureds, third parties, regulatory authorities and the courts.
  • Review of outside counsel activities to ensure that the Company and its insureds receive competent representation, services that are necessary and at a reasonable cost.
  • Provide advice and counsel with regard to other general corporate matters.
  • Stay current with changes to legislation, case law, rules, and regulations that directly affect the Company and the insurance industry and advise impacted branches/divisions of changes that may impact them.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • A law degree and license to practice law is required.
  • Previous legal experience preferred, especially in the area of tort or insurance law.
  • Ability to exercise excellent legal, analytical and comprehension skills.
  • An ability to use written and verbal communication skills in providing legal advice, counsel and services for the Company.
  • Ability to work effectively with associates at all levels is essential.
  • Strong negotiating skills with both legal and financial/commercial issues.
