About the FP&A Team

Our Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team drives superior outcomes for Canva, financial and beyond.

We are currently in our scale up phase which presents a very unique time to join one of Australia’s most successful tech companies and have an outsized impact from your efforts! We’re a new and highly collaborative team full of incredibly skilled people to learn from who have a top tier variety of experience (think Google, X, Atlassian, Ebay etc), and we need YOU in order to help Canva to keep moving fast and become a world-class FP&A team.

About the Topline Forecasting Team

Within the FP&A Team, we have a number of teams, including the Topline Forecasting Team. This team owns the topline forecast models, including architecting and optimising how various input models come together to produce the overall company level forecast while ensuring alignment with business initiatives, product structures and market dynamics. The team is responsible for creating and maintaining operational and scenario models that allow Canva to plan and track our Annualised Revenue Performance. We use our strategic thinking and modelling expertise to forecast financial outcomes with precision and partnering with the business to drive initiatives that support Canva’s vision and strategy

About the role

In this unique role, you’ll divide your time between day-to-day operations work and strategic project work.

One part of your role will be dedicated to day-to-day operations, including ownership topline forecast models, day-to-day updates and analysis of revenue metrics, drivers and dashboards. You’ll support the creation of robust processes for Topline forecasting, ensuring accuracy and reliability. You’ll be partnering closely with Finance Business Partners and revenue-generating teams to understand KPIs, drivers and strategic initiatives, proving actionable insights to key stakeholders.

The other part to your role will be dedicated to strategic project work, supporting with evolving existing and building new operating models as required to assist with evaluating strategic alternatives, new initiatives and tracking group operational metrics. This requires you to lean on your strategic thinking and modelling experience to understand the drivers of the business and learn to provide advice on the best modelling approach to take. Typically, you’ll be working on one large project at any given time, plus ad hoc smaller projects.

 

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

In this role, you’ll add value through:

  • building your operational modelling and strategic thinking to solve unique and complex business problems.
  • working closely with Finance Business Partners and the revenue generating groups to understand performance metrics, underlying drivers, ongoing strategic initiatives and optimise scenario and operational models.
  • providing forecasts that feed into profitability analysis, supporting the broader FP&A team with insights and commentary on operational metrics.
  • identifying potential risks to future growth and revenue early, through monitoring of metrics and key performance indicators.
  • provide monthly updates for actuals, revising forecasts based on the latest business insights and metrics, including collaborating across the business to ensure our forecast accurately reflects business reality
  • learning the nuances of market and industry trends, applying insights to revenue forecasting and SaaS metrics.
  • collaborating with the broader FP&A and Finance team to elevate financial excellence across Canva.

You're probably a match if you

  • have some experience in operational modelling and topline forecasting (within SaaS or tech industry a bonus but not essential) 
  • have a hunger for continuous learning, embracing new challenges with high adaptability, and have the drive to learn and understanding of various operational modelling techniques, from architecting to understanding trade offs, you know when and where to apply them maximum impact.
  • have some experience in strategic corporate finance, private equity/venture capital, investment banking, management consulting or similar environments.
  • love modelling in Excel and are keen to expand your knowledge of data structures and building intricate models that provide invaluable insights into the business dynamics.
  • are a strategic thinker and would like to build on your commercial acumen.
  • have some experience analysing multiple dimensions of what drives a business equation and thrive in cross-functional collaboration, synthesising insights to drive impactful financial and operational forecasts.
  • are eager to learn how to identify areas of improvements in existing models, ensuring efficiency an accuracy.
  • have a knack for data detective work, diving deep into data, seamlessly joining disparate sources to uncover root causes and business drivers, allowing you to decipher downstream impacts, guiding forecast and goals with precision.
  • thrive in highly collaborative environments and solving problems creatively.
  • have experience with PowerQuery, PowerBi, DAX and SQL is a plus, but not essential.
