The  opportunity

As our Principal Data & Network Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development of the data logging and storing mechanism for our network, whilst being security-minded to make our FL network ironclad from all threats. You’ll be responsible for making sure we have all the data recorded from our product and services to improve our AI models. Furthermore, designing, implementing and providing operation support for the maintenance and security of our FL network spanning both production and internal dev environments. You’re the gatekeeper and protector of our network. This role is more than a job; it's a calling for those passionate about making a significant impact in the energy sector through technological innovation. You'll not only be joining a team of leading experts but also contributing to a project with monumental potential. If you're ready to pioneer AI solutions that will redefine industry standards and eager to grow alongside a company poised to become a market leader, Kashmir Intelligence is your next destination.

What will you be doing?

  • Infrastructure Development: Build and manage the backbone, data centre, and network infrastructure for the engineering team.

  • Network Management: Build, manage and maintain multi-vendor, multi-protocol data centre and backbone networks.

  • Edge Device Network Management: Build, manage and maintain a network for billions of IoT sensors.

  • Security Risk Assessment: Identify risks in network infrastructure to prevent data exposure, unauthorised access, or availability loss and prioritising remediation efforts to address gaps.

  • Network Monitoring Optimization: Develop systems to monitor networks efficiently.

  • Architectural Design: Design and deploy innovative network architectures.

  • Automated Network Management: Develop methods to mitigate automatically and remediate network events.

  • Security Automation: Create tools and scripts for security tasks, monitor network traffic, and detect anomalies.

  • Technical Analysis and Collaboration: Analyse network data to identify issues, participate in deep technical discussions, and collaborate with engineering teams for integrated security.

  • Incident Response Planning: Develop plans for swift response to network or security incidents / failure, both internal and external.

Here’s what we promise:
  • Tech Stack Freedom: Shape your own tech environment, crafting it from the ground up for optimal innovation. Your design, your call.

  • Autonomy in Development: Take ownership of the engineering stack, being more than a cog in the machine, but its architect.

  • Path to Leadership: Potential to grow into pivotal roles, like Head of Networks, as team grows, aligning with our vision for future leadership.

  • Impactful Work: Your contributions will resonate deeply, aligning with your life's purpose and making a real-world difference.

  • Collaboration with Excellence: Work alongside elite peers, ensuring a harmonious and intellectually stimulating environment.

  • Cutting-Edge Tools: Access to the latest and greatest in technology and infrastructure, supporting your quest for excellence.

To be effective in this role you’ll need to be / have:

  • 10+ years of experience in network engineering or network-centric software development.

  • Bachelor's / master’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field.

  • Experience with maintaining and developing computer networks.

  • Experience with UNIC, TCP/IP, network fundamentals or similar.

  • Experience coding at least one language i.e. Python / Rust / C++

  • Experience learning new concepts around network design and management.

  • Experience in managing projects from initiation to close using project methodologies such as Agile.

  • Experience with Software Development processes including source control, bug tracking, and design documentation.

  • Knowledge of Switching and Routing concepts and implementation of routing protocol i.e. BGP, OSPF and ISIS.

  • Experience in network security, including firewall management, intrusion detection/prevention, and VPN technologies.

  • Experience researching, building and implementing defensive security systems that are used to defend against internal and external attack vectors.

  • Knowledge of Tunnelling protocols i.e. MPLS, GRE, IPnIP

What competencies will you need to be successful?

To be effective in this role you’ll need to be / have:

  • Problem Solving and Analytical Thinking: Tackling complex issues with critical analysis. Justify why certain design choices were made, and the impact it can have on our services & users.

  • Calm and confident: remain level-headed if the network is breached or down, you must remain confident and refer to your experiences to solve the problem as quickly as possible; we are working with the world’s most sensitive data, we can’t panic and have downtime.

  • Attention to Detail: Keen observation skills for monitoring network performance and detecting anomalies. Eyes need to be able to spot any issues just by knowing where to look.

  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in network infrastructure, including data centres and backbone networks.

  • Communication and Collaboration: Skills to work effectively in teams, communicate complex ideas clearly, and inform the team of any breaches.

  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to new technologies, situations in complex time settings and methodologies in networking and security.

How do we measure success for the role? Whilst we have listed several metrics below, we fully expect to work with you on the role to ensure it's clear to you how to excel in the role.
  • Project Development and Implementation: Track the progress and completion of key software development milestones. For example, successful development and deployment of the product’s network architecture, integration with data collection module, and development of ETL pipelines for product development and R&D.

  • Total No. of Security threats prevented: Total number of security threats accounted for in the network; measure by accreditation from third party testers such as pen testing; get commercial certification such as standards. I.e. ISO/IEC 27001 2022 , ISO 9001, SOC Type II etc.

  • Total. No. of downtime events: This should be as close to high end industry comparable standards as possible. If there is downtime post deployment; then there should be a redundancy network / method built into account for changes and maintenance. This is binary. We will be expected to provide a service 24/7/365 as our clients data in refineries are recorded 24x7. You will be accountable and responsible for the availability of the service and expected to establish redundancy and resiliency to meet this requirement.

  • Upgrades made to the network overtime: Over time; based on cybersecurity literature, have we accounted for all new types of attacks? Is there a list of attacks we have considered? What is our coverage?

  • Professional Growth and Learning: Encourage continuous learning and development in technology trends, software methodologies, and industry best practices. Track participation in workshops, courses, or certifications relevant to the role.

  • Team Collaboration and Leadership: Measure the impact on team productivity and morale, effectiveness in mentoring junior developers, and contributions to a positive and collaborative work environment.
