What is my role?

As a Functional Skills Tutor with us, you’ll be providing maths and English tutoring to our students, primarily in preparation for taking Level 2 Functional Skills exams. You’ll be delivering effective teaching and support to help them achieve their aspirations, goals and qualifications.

What will I do day to day?

  • Plan, prepare and deliver effective and engaging maths and English skills workshops to meet the needs of the learner.
  • Create and develop maths and English materials and resources for use primarily online and maintain them on the Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs)
  • Create individual support plans tailored to learner ’s individual needs
  • Deliver learning and evidence progression to meet the targets set for the learner to enable learners to meet/exceed their goals
  • Maintain accurate records to monitor learner progress and achievement
  • Participate in development, administration and marking of exams
  • Support working between the SEND, Functional Skills and the apprenticeship team to ensure the timely achievement of Functional Skills qualifications.

What is required of me?

  • Experience within a functional skills role teaching both English and maths
  • GCSE English and Maths – C+ grade
  • Teaching qualification i.e PGCE or Cert Ed (desirable)
  • Degree or equivalent in any subject (desirable)
