Position: Church Engagement Advisor

Reports to: Manager, Church Engagement

Position Term: Full Time Permanent

Primary Location: Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

Job Purpose:

The Church Advisor acts as World Vision Canada’s (WVC) representative, building strong relationships using a sales and moves management model to facilitate a two-way value proposition between Pastors and WVC that contributes to the discipleship needs of congregations and creates effective global partnerships that directly benefit the children communities WVC serves.

The Church Advisor will develop a network of WVC advocates working with key churches and pastors who will promote World Vision within their sphere of influence.

Responsible for the execution of the Church Engagement strategy which primarily supports WVC’s fundraising goals as well as overall brand and engagement strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop strong relationships with key influential pastors and other church leaders using a relational sales approach to connect their interests with WVC’s mission and ministry to the poor.
  • Utilize a sales approach that will result in an increased number of engaged / highly engaged churches to ultimately lead to increased revenues and more Canadians engaged in transformational experiences through church partnerships.
  • Using sales techniques and moves management strategies, build strategic relationships for key congregations/pastors.
  • Execute sales/moves management techniques to meet activity and revenue goals.
  • Develop and implement mutually beneficial engagement plans between the church and WVC that will meet both WVC’s financial goals and the church’s ministry/discipleship goals.
  • Maintain relationships with pastors and their churches through all stages using a moves management approach.
  • Represent World Vision in the church and community through networking, conferences and public speaking engagements to build WVC brand awareness and create WVC advocates.

Qualifications:

  • Fundraising or Sales experience required
  • Pastoral ordination is preferred, or in lieu, denominational licensing for church ministry would be an asset
  • Proven experience in church ministry leadership; denominational leadership experience is an asset
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Experience building working relationships among senior church leaders from a variety of faith communities; exceptional networking skills and proven record of relationship management skills in environments of multiple priorities
  • Knowledge of international development and Canadian non-profit / fundraising an asset
  • Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Expertise in working with church leaders in a variety of church environments; strong understanding of diverse Christian traditions and churches
  • Understanding and empathy towards the needs and issues of church leaders and ability to meet those needs
  • Broad understanding of the Church, culture, customs, and communication
  • Ministry networks in a given cultural community an asset

Working Conditions:

  • This position requires the ability to travel for business (domestic and international travel) and the ability to work occasional weekends and evenings, as required.
