About the Position
As an Associate Principal Engineer in the BESS group, you will function as a subject matter expert working on NEIs most complex projects. This position will have a high level of autonomy and involve leadership, mentoring, and engineering responsibilities. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment helping with QA/QC and establishing / enforcing best practices and procedures.
Salary Range: $100,000 - $175,000 / year
The salary range above is based upon the Denver, Colorado labor market.
This opportunity is available to both local / in-office (Lakewood, CO) and full-time remote candidates.
Essential Responsibilities
- Works closely with Technical Directors and the Vice President, acting as a subject matter expert on the most complex BESS projects within the Renewable Generation department
- Primarily responsible for the creation, rollout, training, and enforcement of technical standards across the department
- Performs the review of detailed physical and electrical design and engineering for all aspects of battery energy storage systems (BESS)
- Typical design products might include BESS equipment general arrangements, single line diagrams, elevations, connection details, bill of materials, construction details, grounding details, conduit plans, illumination plans, etc.
- Typical electrical power system studies might include BESS equipment sizing, specification, and selection, load flow, reactive power, ampacity, short circuit, grounding, illumination, arc flash, harmonics, system loss, etc.
- Writes and reviews material, equipment, and construction specifications
- Reviews submittals for conformance with specifications and design
- Prepares and reviews hand and computer-based calculations and models for electrical designs
- Prepares a variety of documents and reports associated with projects including cost estimates, budget reports, proposals, and studies for complex projects
- Performs field inspection and construction supervision services as necessary
- Checks the work of designers, drafters, and field service personnel for overall quality and accuracy as required
- Maintains a strong understanding and comprehension of applicable Codes and Standards
- Attends conferences, training workshops, seminars, undergraduate, and graduate classes as appropriate for advancement and as required to maintain quality of work
- Attends safety training and follows safety rules and guidelines
- Other duties as assigned
Must Have
- Education: Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution, power option preferred
- Experience: 7+ years of relevant engineering or field experience
- Licensure: PE is required
- Proficiency with AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical, electrical power system study software (PowerFactory, ETAP), CYMCAP, CDEGS/WinIGS, Visual, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with 3D BIM design software
- People management experience leading teams of 5-10 individuals
- Possesses effective written and oral communications skills
- Good interpersonal and people skills
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
