Newsweek is looking to recruit an eager full-time Digital Multimedia Specialist to join our dynamic multimedia team. The Digital Multimedia Specialists will create visuals, including photos, videos, and graphics for various content, including breaking news, feature stories, original interviews, and more. The ideal candidate is eager to learn and master AI-enhanced and non-AI tools to create visually compelling content that maximizes impact across all digital platforms, including Newsweek’s homepage and social media. This role is entry-level and currently functioning remotely.
Key Responsibilities
Use tools that generate, edit and produce bespoke images, graphics and convert article URLs into short, comprehensive videos to match articles on a wide range of news topics to scale video at a fast rate
Create multiple compelling images and 30-60 second videos that will take 30 minutes or less to produce
Learn and use non-AI and AI-enhanced tools to generate and edit visual content. Tools include Canva, ClipChamp, Firefly, Flourish, Google Earth Studio and more
Produce storytelling video content for YouTube and other social media platforms
Write headlines, summaries and choose thumbnails for videos
Ensure all visuals on the website meet Newsweek’s journalistic and editorial standards
Be open to testing new emerging tools that can be implemented within multimedia and the wider newsroom
Adapt to changing goals and priorities
Perform any other reasonable duties as necessary to meet the needs of the business.
Qualifications
Solid news understanding across a range of subjects
Strong attention to detail, time management and excellent communication skills
A team player, self-starter and goal-oriented
Ability to take direction and pivot at any time
Open-minded to learn and try new things that will maximize workflow
Familiar with social media platforms, especially YouTube
Basic video editing skills
A passion for storytelling through video and photo
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure with minimum supervision and meet tight deadlines
Supports Newsweek’s mission and goals
Reliable internet connection
Must speak fluent English
Perform various other tasks on an as-needed basis to meet production needs
Must be able to work flexible hours if requested
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications or journalism
Experience working in multimedia or digital media
Experience editing video with Adobe Premiere
Experience using Canva
Knowledge and/or experience with graphic design, photography, motion graphics
