PAAY has a new and exciting position as Sr DevOps Engineer – Team Lead on our Engineering/Technology Team.
In this role you will mentor a small, cross-functional engineering team and serve as the team lead for that group and all engineering activities within PAAY. The Engineering/Tech team reports into the Head of Product and is a key role in driving PAAY’s core, cloud-based SaaS product forward. The ideal candidate for this role will not only possess a strong technical competency and a keen understanding of engineering fundamentals, but also top-notch communication, and promote collaboration, teamwork, and leadership. This is a great opportunity to grow into a larger, more formal Engineering/Tech leadership position within the organization.
Location This position will be remote. Candidate may work where they live anywhere in the United States. Our Headquarters is in NYC (Eastern Time Zone). Selected candidate may be required to attend 9AM ET meetings.

What You’ll Do
- Lead the engineering team on day-to-day technical responsibilities ensuring the team produces solid and efficient code that meets quality standards, is compliant and adheres to timeline and project scope/customer requirements
- Work within and across an Agile team to design, develop, test, implement and support technical solutions across a full-stack of development tools and technologies
- Serve as the bridge between the Engineering & Product teams to create project plans, timelines and accomplish expected deliverables using resilient, scalable and efficient solutions
- Help build a culture of curiosity, learning and ownership by continuing to develop your skills and sharing your knowledge and experience with your colleagues
- Continuously improve engineering practices and proactively identify risks and execute strategies that eliminate or mitigate those risks
- Alongside the team of engineers - build, improve and scale our microservices using technologies such as GoLang, Terraform, MySQL and Amazon Web Services
- Own the administration and automation efforts of Linux
- Software development and review ideally in Go, Python, or Javascript
- Contribute regularly to the evolution of our architecture, design, tooling and process
- Database administration and tuning including Mysql and/or PostgreSQL
What You’ll Need
- 5+ years of experience with at least one cloud platform, ideally AWS
- 5+ years of experience with at least one container orchestration, ideally ECS
- 5+ years of experience automating Cloud deployment experiences ideally utilizing Terraform and Jenkins
- 5+ years of experience implementing strategies such as blue-green deployments, immutable infrastructure, and infrastructure as code
- 5+ years of experience with at least one metrics/alerting tool, ideally Datadog
- Experience with Cloud Networking concepts and technologies
- 7+ years of experience with at least one non-Bash programming language such as Python, Go, Node.js, or Java
- Experience in threat monitoring and resolution
- Experience in regulated industries that live under compliance to standards such as SOC or PCI
- Experience developing systems targets for a cloud environment such as AWS, Azure or GCP
- Ability to build consumable Restful APIs as well as services that consume 3rd party APIs
- Expertise and comfortability working in an environment where a high degree of communication is required between and within teams
- Experience in Payments/FinTech industry is helpful
