Job Summary
Responsible for managing and overseeing the contractual agreements within the Research organization by ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, mitigating risks, and facilitating smooth financial operations. Develops training materials for junior staff, implements training/on-boarding initiatives and functions as a go to for day-to-day inquiries.
Essential Functions:
-Responsible for managing and overseeing research contracting on behalf of Mass General Brigham and its member institutions; ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements; mitigating risks; and facilitating financial operations.
-Provides training and support for junior staff, implements training/on-boarding initiatives, and serves as a resource on research contracting matters for Research Management colleagues and Mass General Brigham's research community.
-Drafts and negotiates the terms and conditions of research agreements, including, but not limited to, clinical trial agreements, research service, confidentiality, material transfer, and data use agreements.
-Acts as a designated institutional business official for Research Management holding full signing authority on behalf of Mass General Brigham and its member institutions.
-Develops and implements contracts-related training for departmental and central research staff, as needed.
-Provides support, coordination and management of contracting for large-scale research collaborations, complex and unusual agreements, and complex research projects, as assigned.
-Manages a high volume of research agreements, including agreements of high complexity, for assigned departments.
Education
- Bachelor's and Juris Doctor Degrees required; however, research contracting experience may be accepted in lieu of a Juris Doctor Degree
Experience
- At least 3-5 years of contract administration/negotiation experience is required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Analytical and financial acumen, with the ability to interpret and analyze contract terms.
- Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to review and interpret complex contract language and identify potential risks and issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of integrity and ethical behavior in handling sensitive contractual and financial information.
