Job description

Our Why

Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people’s lives and help organisations use the power of tech to innovate and grow.

About the Role (your why)

Datacom is a trusted delivery partner across New Zealand and Australia, delivering cutting-edge solutions that are transforming industries. We’re looking for an experienced Programme Manager to drive these high-impact initiatives.

In this role, you’ll lead complex programmes from inception through to delivery, ensuring customer outcomes meet the highest standards of quality, value, and performance. You may work alone on a project or be part of a larger delivery team. Regardless, you’ll own managing scope, timelines, budgets, and stakeholder expectations to deliver exceptional results.

Our customers rightly expect us to be a leader in the AI field, so your knowledge around using AI to deliver technology projects is valued. This is a pivotal role at an exciting time for Datacom, offering the opportunity to shape the future of AI delivery across the region.

What You’ll Do:

As a Programme Manager, you will be required to:

  • Delivery exceptional outcomes for our customers.
  • Oversee the project governance & delivery, establishing and managing effective project operations, ensuring quality deliveries across complex, multi-platform IT environments.
  • Lead project design, planning, and scheduling activities for applications and infrastructure projects, maintaining alignment with agreed timelines and customer requirements.
  • Define, source, and manage project resources; prepare and monitor budgets, secure approvals, and track financial performance and benefit realization.
  • Identify and control project risks, issues, dependencies, and scope changes; manage change plans and assess business impacts.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships, exceed expectations through effective communication, and manage vendor contracts and agreements.
  • Oversee the business continuity planning within the functional area, including development, review, testing, and training; ensure health and safety compliance in line with company policy.
  • Manage project teams, provide guidance within company policies, and oversee phases of software development from requirements analysis to implementation.

Due to the dynamic nature of the IT industry and the diverse challenges involved in delivering competitive products and services to our clients, it’s important to gain experience across different areas of the business where possible. As a result, you may be required to take on a variety of roles within Datacom to meet business needs and broaden your understanding.

What You’ll Bring:

We are seeking a resilient and adaptable team player to manage multiple mid to large-sized projects, who can bring a dynamic element to our existing professional project management capability.

You will have:

  • Experience managing programmes in a customer environment. Any understanding of regulatory, compliance, and risk frameworks is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver technology and business transformation initiatives in complex political environments.
  • Self-motivated with a strong focus on delivering exceptional business and customer outcomes across multiple projects and initiatives.
  • Proven experience managing large, complex programmes in consulting or customer environments, ideally spanning multiple workstreams and platforms.
  • Ability to build, lead, and inspire collaborative programme teams, aligning diverse projects to achieve strategic organisational goals.
  • Broad and deep understanding of technical software development, implementation programmes, and interrelated technology dependencies.
  • Experience in managing AI-related programmes is advantageous, but adaptability and a willingness to learn and pivot in emerging technology areas is essential.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and tailor messaging for executives, technical teams, and business leaders.
  • Strong financial governance capabilities, including managing programme budgets, tracking benefits realisation, and understanding cost, utilisation, and revenue impacts.
  • Familiarity with multiple delivery frameworks such as Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid approaches, and the ability to apply them effectively at programme level.
