About The Role
The Distribution Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and estimating of electrical distribution systems to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of electricity to end users. This role applies diversified engineering knowledge to a broad range of assignments, from small projects to large-scale infrastructure improvements. The position involves system performance analysis, reliability strategy recommendations, and collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Perform all aspects of engineering design, permitting, and construction for electrical distribution systems.
Support project management, negotiations, performance tracking, and reporting.
Serve as the single point of contact for projects ranging from simple to complex.
Assist with policy development, training, and overall organizational support.
Prepare technical communications, presentations, and reports, and conduct meetings as needed.
Conduct system performance and reliability analysis to provide recommendations.
Leverage new technology and Smart Grid solutions to improve service and system efficiency.
Collaborate with other departments to define customer requirements and project costs.
Interact with customers to ensure high-quality service and satisfaction.
Apply design skills and utilize engineering software to enhance and maintain the electric grid.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, including NESC regulations.
Meet attendance and storm duty requirements as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Strong technical engineering skills and understanding of power systems.
Knowledge of general engineering and construction principles related to distribution systems.
Proficiency in underground and overhead construction practices.
Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet strict deadlines.
Excellent project management skills with a results-driven approach.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills with customers, engineers, and field personnel.
Proficiency in engineering software and tools, including:
GE Smallworld
Pole Foreman
Maximo (Work Management Software)
CYME, Synergi, Windmill
EDEN, NJUNS, ARMS, JETS
Designer/Express Sketch/GIS
CSS, Socket, DistView, TCMSWeb, BOUD
Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to challenges.
Valid driver's license required.
Education
Key Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited school.
A Professional Engineering License (PE) is not required but preferred for advance-level position
Experience Requirements
Engineer I – 0+ years of engineering experience.
Engineer II – 2+ years of engineering experience.
Engineer III – 5+ years of engineering experience.
Working Conditions
Combination of office and field-based work with occasional exposure to outdoor environments.
May require travel to job sites or other facilities as needed.
