We’re seeking a Technical Manager to lead one of our API teams, a foundational group behind high-traffic platforms like Homes.com and Apartments.com. These APIs are mission-critical, powering millions of user interactions daily. Their performance, reliability, and scalability directly influence developer productivity, site performance, and ultimately, customer satisfaction. 

This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who thrives at the intersection of engineering and product strategy. You’ll guide a technically strong team through the full software development lifecycle, from concept to deployment and beyond. You’ll also collaborate with engineering leaders, product managers, and cross-functional teams to shape the future of our platform. 

This API team is a cornerstone of CoStar’s engineering ecosystem. Their work directly affects how other teams build, how fast our platforms perform, and how satisfied our customers are with the experience. From developer velocity to site reliability, this team’s contributions are felt across the organization. 

This position is located in La Jolla, CA, and offers a work schedule of 4 days onsite, 1 day work from home. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead an Agile software development team (6 people) to deliver scalable high performance technical solutions. 

  • Act as a player-coach, who can mentor and coach team members into highly productive team players. 

  • Promote can-do attitude, engineering mindset, and collaboration as fundamental team values. 

  • Influence application architecture and product direction. 

  • Architecting, building, testing, and deploying scalable, reusable, and maintainable APIs that handle large amounts of data.  

  • Drive continuous improvement by focusing on engineering excellence. 

  • Translate business requirements into technical requirements, develop project plans, and work schedules for use by development teams. 

  • Successfully implement software development projects to specification and within scheduled timelines and budget parameters 

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and other Agile teams to deliver large initiatives. 

  • Work with recruiting to identify, hire, and onboard top industry talent. 

  • Develop and maintain an in-depth working knowledge of the CRE Industry and CoStar’s business model / technology. 

  • Be hands on and be able to evaluate emerging technologies to identify opportunities, trends, and best practices that can be used to strengthen CoStar’s technology platform and development practices. 

  • Adopt an owner-operator mindset and demonstrate full ownership of the product and technical platforms. 

  • Act as "Voice of the Customer" when participating in product readiness reviews. 

  • Pub/Sub experience 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required from an accredited, not-for-profit university or college. 

  • 10+ years of professional software development experience. 

  • A track record of commitment to prior employers. 

  • 8+ years’ experience building large distributed, API-driven systems. 

  • 2+ years of experience leading agile teams. 

  • Significant API experience, with deep expertise in back-end technologies (C#, .NET Core 6.x¸ .NET Framework, SQL Server etc.).   

  • Experience with AWS (DynamoDB, S3) 

  • Experience leading multi-tiered (manager of managers) technical teams, working through complex requirements, and offering relevant, timely technical solutions. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; Must be able to communicate at a level appropriate to the audience (direct reports, peers, and senior management). 

  • Excellent team building, negotiation, and consensus building abilities. 

  • Ability to motivate and build high performance software development teams. 

  • Real world experience designing and implementing complex application architectures on Amazon Web Services. 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills 

  • Kafka, SQS, Lambda, Datadog, Terraform 

  • Real Estate knowledge is a bonus.

This position offers a base salary range of $172,000$258,000 based on relevant skills and experience and includes a generous benefits plan.
