Job Description:

The Payroll Clerk III plays a key role in the accurate and timely processing of payroll using Workday Payroll, HCM, and Timekeeping. This position is responsible for executing a wide range of payroll functions including tax compliance, workers' compensation reporting, system transactions, and issue resolution. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of Workday, experience with multi-state payroll processing, and a strong understanding of payroll taxes, including quarterly filings and compliance in monopolistic workers’ compensation states.

  • Process and audit payroll transactions in Workday, ensuring compliance with internal controls and payroll processes.
  • Ensure accuracy in payroll results based on employee-level changes such as new hires, terminations, position changes, and pay adjustments in Workday.
  • Assist with quarterly payroll tax filings and coordinate with third-party vendors to ensure timely and accurate submissions.
  • Research, resolve, and document complex payroll tax issues, including jurisdiction-specific errors, historical corrections, and amendments.
  • Ensure compliance with workers’ compensation requirements, including reporting for monopolistic states (e.g., Ohio, Washington, Wyoming, North Dakota).
  • Monitor and respond to inquiries in the payroll mailbox, providing clear and timely resolutions to employee concerns.
  • Review, verify, and reconcile payroll data including retroactive pay, bonus and commission payments, and on-demand payment requests.
  • Perform routine audits of Workday time entries and pay data to ensure accuracy of hours worked, time off balances, and pay codes.
  • Assist with the preparation and reconciliation of month-end payroll reports, journal entries, and variance analyses.
  • Participate in internal audits, compliance reviews, and ad hoc payroll projects as assigned
  • Perform other duties that support the overall objective of the position.

Education Required:
  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED).  
  • College coursework in Accounting, Business, or related field preferred.  
  • Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.

Experience Required:
  • 3+ years of payroll experience, preferably in a multi-state, high-volume environment.
  • Demonstrated experience processing payroll using Workday Payroll, HCM, and Time Tracking.
  • Experience supporting payroll for a public company and processing semi-monthly payroll cycles.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of: Solid understanding of payroll tax regulations, including federal, state, and local requirements and quarterly filings. Familiarity with monopolistic state workers’ compensation programs and related payroll impacts. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and reporting functions within Workday.
  • Skill in: Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate and resolve complex tax and payroll discrepancies.
  • Ability to: Prioritize workload and multi-task while maintaining attention to detail. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships through collaboration and respect.
