We are seeking a Senior Medical Coder with experience analyzing medical records. This remote position involves reviewing health information, validating code sets submitted by hospitals and physicians for audits, and maintaining strict confidentiality of protected health information. The role requires independent work, sound judgment, and proficiency with medical coding, abstracting, and auditing.
Candidates will be hired as remote employees, with 40 hours per week and flexible scheduling. This is expected to be a 9 month contract.

Key Responsibilities:
Analyze protected health information according to CMS project rules.
Participate in the intake process of medical records.
Assign ICD-9/10-CM codes following AMA guidelines (proficiency in ICD-9 for retrospective audits is essential, ICD-10 is a plus).
Discuss project discrepancies with Team Leads.
Maintain coding credentials and continuing education.
Possess and apply a comprehensive understanding of coding rules, changes, and guidelines as defined by the AMA.
Qualifications:
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in abstracting and ICD-9/ICD-10 coding for general acute hospital (inpatient and outpatient) and physician medical records, applying official coding guidelines and clinics.
Experience in abstracting ICD-9/ICD-10 in a blended HCC model.
Extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease pathology, and medical terminology.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for interaction with internal employees, clients, and customers.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise professional judgment in accordance with the AHIMA Code of Ethics.
Successful completion of an online administered coder assessment is required.
