The Associate Director of Development Technology Solutions is responsible for the implementation and ongoing management of our Salesforce CRM and its associated technologies (such as integrations and third-party add-ons). This position will oversee implementation, ongoing feature development, integration with other Earthjustice systems and supports user onboarding, training and adoption. This includes Salesforce Administrator responsibilities, product management, stakeholder management, and collaboration with our developers (employees and contractors) for the CRM migration. The Associate Director is responsible for ensuring the new CRM will add value to our organization, build stronger connections with our donors and supporters and improve our ability to track and report on fundraising and constituent engagement. This position will manage at least one staff member and will help develop the team by hiring and training employees to support our evolving tool suite for the Development department.

This position reports to the Director of Development Operations. Our preference is for this position to be based from one of our offices in San Francisco, Washington, DC, or New York City. However, we are open to remote candidates based anywhere in the U.S.

Responsibilities

Product Management: 40%

  • Manage the CRM product roadmap, product goal, and product backlog.
  • Support the planning of and lead the partner supported implementation of the CRM migration from Blackbaud eCRM to Salesforce NPC (2026-2028 for MVP launch).
  • Understand user personas, use cases, user acceptance criteria, and user journeys for adoption.
  • Own the long-term vision of the product and its related technology solutions (integrations and third-party apps covering event management, data strategy, and more), including management of a multi-year product backlog.
  • Support defining sprint timelines, budgets, and resourcing plans with alongside the Project Management Office (PMO).
  • Monitor risks and decisions throughout the implementation of the new CRM.
  • Ensure technology solutions related to the CRM align with organizational objectives and fundraising goals.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Salesforce NPC, its new features and product roadmap, and make recommendations internally for adoption of new features and workflows.
  • Implement continual improvements as required to achieve excellence in the technology solutions for the department.
  • Lead change management efforts including training, communication of changes, self-service guidance for internal NPC users, and process documentation.
  • Adhere to Earthjustice and Salesforce security requirements and data governance best practices to mitigate risks to donor data and our organization.

Vendor Management and Developer Support: 25%

  • Coordinate cross-departmental staffing of teams, including support from Development, IT, Operations, and contractors with support from other supervisors to ensure prioritized work is completed on time and meets quality standards.
  • Support implementation team members and vendors by providing clear goals, advising on the ordering of tasks, and scope for each stage of the migration.
  • Collaborate with the PMO to implement Agile methodologies to manage project workflows with internal teams and contract support.
  • Adapt with the team to changing project requirements and timelines.
  • Escalate conflicts and roadblocks to executive leadership when needed to protect the analysts and developers’ time and the integrity of the CRM.
  • Support, QA, and deploy releases per a path to Production.
  • Support data and business analysts by providing data and systems governance guidance and best practices.

Stakeholder Management: 25%

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Manage relationships with product owners of other tools (EveryAction, Civis) and other departmental teams to ensure collaboration, data sharing, and integrations where necessary.
  • Manage any external vendors to support CRM implementation and ongoing support.
  • Maintain and adjust the product backlog to stakeholder needs in alignment with adding value to our organization and its vision.
  • Understand how to translate needs and wants from stakeholders into clear, prioritized requirements.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between executive leadership and technical teams.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and opportunities to all stakeholders with support from the PMO.
  • Facilitate meetings and workshops to review progress, gather requirements and feedback.
  • Lead recommendations and decisions with key input from leadership on the future of technology and in support of an environment management plan.

Supervisory: 10%

  • Supervise Development technology team, ensuring staff feel supported and fully engaged in department goals and individual roles.
  • Manage and grow a team of business and data analysts and developers (anyone working to support the build and maintenance of the CRM) to support our instance of Salesforce NPC and associated technologies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with developers, technical staff, consultants and fundraisers.
  • Serve on the Development Operations, Research & Evaluation leadership team for collaboration and coaching on management strategy.
  • Set clear team direction that aligns with Earthjustice strategy, mission, and vision.
  • Ensure clear definition of role and associated responsibilities.
  • Communicate regularly with the team and encourage staff to raise concerns and provide ongoing feedback.
  • Create annual work plans with goals that support department and team objectives and assist team members with managing competing priorities.
  • Create a learning culture by encouraging debriefing after completion of significant stages of projects.
  • Create or identify strategic opportunities for team building and individual and overall staff engagement with one another to strengthen teamwork, interaction, and collaboration.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in product management, with a focus on CRM, ERP, and CMS implementations.
  • Minimum 3 years of staff management as a supervisor preferred.
  • Salesforce experience required, and Salesforce Certified Administrator or comparable experience in Salesforce systems NPSP/NPC preferred.
  • Relevant certifications in product ownership, CRM, project management, change management or Agile methodologies are preferred but not required. (CSPO, PMP, CSM).
  • Experience managing multiple vendors in support of constituent and revenue management.
  • Experience with Blackbaud, EveryAction, and other Fundraising CRM or eCRM platforms is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience working on a migration of a database, CRM, or comparable technology with customizations.
  • Expertise in Agile project management and methodologies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with both executive leadership and technical teams.
  • Data management and governance experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of SQL administration and building SQL queries and stored procedures preferred.
  • Significant knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Experienced using Tableau for data visualizations, including development with Tableau Desktop and publishing to Tableau Online.
  • Familiarity with Monday.com as a work management software is preferred.
  • Required proven experience managing and navigating nuanced, large-scale change initiatives, preferably in a nonprofit or mission driven environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to convey technical information effectively to a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Well-organized, attentive to detail and timeliness.
  • Successful management of staff and experience with team building.
  • Personable and able to work with a wide variety of people.

Salary range in San Francisco, CA and New York, NY: $165, 200 - $183,600
Salary range in Washington, D.C., Chicago, IL, Seattle, WA, and Los Angeles, CA: $157,100 - $174,500
Salary range in Denver, CO and Philadelphia, PA: $148,800 - $165,300
Salary range in Miami, FL, Bozeman, MT, and New Orleans, LA: $140,500 - $156,100

Remote salary range will vary depending on location: $140,500 - $183,600
