Job Title: Clinical Ethicist

Duties: The Clinical Ethicist at Advocate Health and Hospitals Corporation in Oak Brook, IL will analyze ethical issues related to clinical, social, and/or organizational ethics issues to facilitate communication and decision making among leaders, team members, patients, families, and substitute/surrogate decision makers. Provide ethics education to leaders, team members, patients, substitute/surrogate decision makers, and the community. Serve as a resource to physicians for ethics education, policy development, and consultation regarding emerging and challenging bioethical issues in medicine. Assess medical facts, patient issues, and contextual factors through review of the medical record, relevant documentation, and conversation with care team members, patient, and/or substitute/surrogate decision-makers. Identify the ethical values held by the individuals related to the case, including moral frameworks, values, goals of care and preferences when applicable, and analyzes ethical principles pertinent to cases. Resolve communication issues, conflicts or dilemmas among team members, patients, family members, and/or substitute/surrogate decision-makers. Identify and delegate non-ethics issues to relevant departments such as Medical Staff Leadership, Administration, Compliance, Human Resources, Legal, Clinical Risk Management, Mission and Spiritual Care, etc. Document ethics consultation performed and present ethics debriefing to team and ethics committee when necessary. Keep abreast of developments in the field of bioethics. Position is 100% remote. Telecommuting available from the following states: AL, AR, AZ, DC, FL, GA, IL, IN, LA, MI, MN, MO, NC, NV, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, WI, WY.

Minimum Requirements: Requires a Medical degree (M.D.) or foreign equivalent and one year of fellowship training in pediatric bioethics, bioethics, clinical ethics, or medical ethics.

Salary: $114,317
