The Role: The Director, Medical Strategy and Scientific Engagement will lead development and execution of medical affairs strategies and tactical plans in collaboration and alignment with cross-functional brand planning and launch teams. The incumbent will work in close collaboration with colleagues in clinical development, marketing, market access, regulatory, publications, medical information, safety, health outcomes, and field medical affairs to develop deliverables including integrated evidence generation plans, scientific narratives, and scientific engagement plans. This role will function as a subject matter expert and participate in appropriate internal committees, as well as interface with Key Opinion Leaders and Investigators to gather competitive insights from the scientific/medical community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead development and execution of medical affairs strategic and tactical plans in collaboration and alignment with cross-functional teams.
- Drive the planning and execution of insights collection activities such as advisory boards, scientific input exchanges and closed research updates.
- Collaborate and interact with KOLs and scientific experts in support of Syndax priorities to inform strategic plans and deliverables.
- Contribute to Medical Affairs representation at Asset Team meetings, including translating cross-functional needs and external stakeholder insights into actionable research and medical deliverables.
- Define strategic areas of interest for integrated data generation planning, investigator sponsored trials, and medical education activities.
- Provide clinical landscape and product input into clinical development plans, trial designs, brand plans and evidence generation that represents KOL/Investigator and competitive insights.
- Help facilitate Medical Affairs Sub Team (MAST) meetings and Asset Sub-teams to build a bridge connecting R&D, commercial strategy and customer facing teams to avoid functional silos
- Responsible for working with MAST members to build a Scientific Platform based on target profile, clinical evidence, disease state / landscape, and product label; Ensure scientific messaging is in alignment with the Scientific Platform, Clinical Development Plan, and Brand Strategy.
- Champion content development of scientific slide decks, field medical tools, training materials, and appropriate congress-related materials and ensure alignment to the scientific narrative.
- Collaborate with field medical affairs to ensure execution is aligned with medical strategy for field insights collection and appropriate educational initiatives.
- Champion Medical Affairs at cross-functional Congress Working Group meetings to develop congress engagement plans.
- Identify internal knowledge gaps and coordinate training and education plans for Medical Affairs.
- Represent Syndax on Partner/Collaborator governance committees related to Clinical / R&D / Medical facing topics.
- Occasional travel will be required for this role.
Desired Experience/Education and Personal Attributes:
- Advanced degree (i.e. MD, DO, PharmD, PhD) in a life-sciences discipline plus 8+ years progressive experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, including 4+ years of direct medical affairs experience.
- Hematology or oncology experience required.
- Launch experience within hematology or oncology preferred.
- Demonstrated track record of successfully developing and implementing impactful medical affairs plans.
- Experience working and influencing in a matrix environment with other functional groups (i.e. Regulatory, Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Commercial), where consensus across multiple opinions and good working relationships are important.
- Analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent planning, organization, and project management skills.
Location: Syndax’s corporate office is in New York, NY.
Syndax offers a total compensation and rewards package that is among the most competitive in the industry. Base pay is just one element of our package and is determined within a range based on several factors including market data, experience, qualifications, demonstrated skills, relevant education or training, travel requirements and internal equity. Our overall package also includes an equity offering, annual target bonuses, and an outstanding benefits program. The anticipated annualized salary range for this role is $230,000 -$255,000.
