RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Introduction

Department / Research Program: Internal Medicine, Nephrology

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow with excellent communication skills to lead a project entitled “Obtaining patient, caregiver and provider perspective on disaster management in kidney care”.

Natural and human-caused disasters have increased in scope and frequency and people living with kidney diseases are uniquely vulnerable. Our background work has highlighted gaps in disaster preparedness in the kidney community and we have developed a framework for disaster risk reduction and management. We now want to obtain patient, provider and caregiver perspectives. The majority of the work will be conducted virtually. The student will receive co-supervision from Dr. Sandal and another professor.

The student's role will be leading all aspects of this work and they will be supported by a research assistant and a lab assistant or Master’s student.

Responsabilities And Objectives

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Designing the study, ethics approval, recruitment, data collection and analysis, manuscript preparation and knowledge dissemination,
  • Collaborating with investigators from across Canada and several international participating centers (the incumbent will be supported by our team),
  • Submitting abstracts to relevant congresses and institutional seminars.

Education / Experience

Education: Doctorate Degree

Field of Study: Sociology, Anthropology, Environmental health, Policy or related

Must demonstrate experience in qualitative research methods and approaches

Required Skills

  • Fluent in English,
  • Ability to speak other languages is an asset,
  • Must be experienced in use of NVivo or similar software,
  • Meticulous organization skills and excellent communication skills,
  • Demonstrate evidence of being an excellent collaborator and team player,
  • Demonstration of research productivity is an asset.

Additional information

Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)

Schedule: Variable Schedule

Site: GLEN Site, 1001 boul. Decarie. Majority of the research will be conducted virtually.

A Postdoctoral fellow is a full-time student currently enrolled in a Canadian University program. The individual must have recently been awarded (within 5 years) a PhD or equivalent. The Postdoctoral fellow will receive a stipend or a bursary from a professor’s grant for research activities that will be performed on a full-time basis. All benefits are administered by the University under which they are registered.
