Title Design Technician Job Status Regular Full Time Position Overview
The City of North Vancouver is the urban core of the beautiful North Shore and has a long-term vision to be “The Healthiest Small City in the World”, with five key priorities to be a City for People, a Resilient City, a Vibrant City, a Connected City and a Prosperous City.
The Engineering, Parks and Environment Department is looking for a Regular full time Design Technician to join their team.
Responsibilities
As a Design Technician, you will design municipal services and systems such as storm and sanitary sewers, water mains, roads and sidewalks to conform to sound engineering and economic principles. Your main duties will include preparing drawings, designs and cost estimates for engineering services and systems, conducting field inspections of assigned projects and making recommendations for changes as required. You will work with internal stakeholders to determine performance requirements for designs and drawings. You will also prepare cost and quantity estimates related to design projects, make technical calculations for a variety of projects, produce drawings including issued for construction drawings and assigned projects, assemble, review, and interpret survey and related utility data related to assigned projects; prepare preliminary drawings and designs for review and approval; and request survey and drafting assistance when appropriate.
Requirements
You will have completed a minimum of two (2) years of a Civil Engineering program, leading to a certificate in Civil Engineering. Skills and experience with AutoCAD and MS Office Suite as well as registration as a Certified Technician with the ASTTBC is required. Experience with ArcGIS, and hydraulic modeling software (e.g. PCSWMM, InfoWater, etc.) would be advantageous. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is preferred.
Compensation
$39.17 – $46.24 per hour
(Pay Grade 23 – January 2024 rates)
Hours of Work
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
