Under the supervision of the Manager of Safety and Training, the incumbent performs a variety of tasks in relation to safety, risk management, and training coordination. The incumbent is required to plan, develop, coordinate, and implement an effective safety education, accident prevention program, while tracking and maintaining all training records for Skagit Transit. This is inclusive of administering initial training, refresher, and remedial courses for all staff. The incumbent will also assess training needs, work with management and staff to develop standard operating procedures to advance the overall needs of the safety and training development programs.
WAGE: $83,022.46-$107,158.62 Annually
Job Duties/Responsibilities
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of Skagit Transit's safety and risk management program including, but not limited to, assisting with or performing accident and/or injury investigations, risk assessment, safety regulation enforcement, hazardous materials management, blood-borne pathogen exposure control program, and injury/accident claims management
Assist with the development and implementation of safety awareness and accident reduction programs
Compile and evaluate relevant information and evidence; review accident/injury reports and prepare recommendations regarding appropriate action for safety violations; determine the preventability status of accidents and injuries as needed
Provide driver training for all Skagit Transit employees who are required to operate Skagit Transit vehicles
Oversee driver trainees during the training period, including scheduling work shifts, approving timecards, and evaluating overall performance
Assess and evaluate other safety sensitive employees to assess basic vehicle operation, safe defensive driving skills and overall job performance; review and discuss with the employee the skills required for optimal job performance; recommend and conduct retraining as necessary to ensure optimal job performance
Assist with the implementation of effective training programs for all staff using classroom, computer-based, and on-the-road training (where applicable); training program includes new hire, refresher, and remedial training to support safe work habits, maximize customer safety, and protect Skagit Transit property
May be asked to serve on interview panels for new driver trainees and may conduct physicals standards evaluations for driver candidates
Assist and communicate with new employees to ensure proper testing and licensing requirements are met prior to the start of work
Perform periodic driving evaluations and report results and recommendations to the Manager of Safety and Training
Must be able to operate all Skagit Transit vehicles
Prepare and maintain records, files, reports, and documentation related to safety and training activities and required compliance records
Maintain safety bulletin and information boards; develop and maintain current handouts, literature, and reference materials related to safety and training
Perform other related duties as assigned
May be required to serve as a designated emergency responder during disasters and/or emergencies
Conduct departmental safety inspections as assigned
Serve as alternate to the Department Manager in reporting to the National Transit Database (NTD)
