About kaiko

In cancer care, treatment decisions can take many days—but patients don’t have that time. One of the reasons for delays? Cancer patients' data is scattered across many places: doctor’s notes, medical imagery, genomics data. At kaiko, we are developing AI foundation models to bring this data together and integrate it into clinical workflows, enabling doctors to make faster, more effective treatments decisions.

We also collaborate closely with the leading Dutch cancer research institute (NKI) on multiple AI research projects and a joint clinical validation initiative. In 2025, we plan on expanding our partnerships to even more hospitals.

We raised significant long-term funding and have offices in Zurich and Amsterdam. Over the past year, our team has nearly doubled in size, now comprising 80+ people from 25 countries and we just got recognized as a Rising Innovator at the GenAI conference

About the role

As a member of an interdisciplinary Engineering team, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners, including Frontend Engineers, ML Engineers, UX Designers, Product Managers, and Medical Practitioners. You will be responsible for developing robust software solutions at the intersection of AI and clinical systems, contributing to products that directly support healthcare professionals and improve patient outcomes.

You will be based in the Netherlands or Switzerland, with the expectation of spending at least 50% of your time at the office.

Some areas of responsibility

Translate non-technical requirements into scalable software solutions;

Contribute to shared codebases and participate in code reviews;

Contribute to System Design and Architecture.

Take end-to-end ownership of projects of varying complexity;

Mentor junior team members and collaborate with technical leads.

About you

You have 5+ years of software development experience, Expert-level knowledge and experience with Python (must-have). knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes;

You demonstrate strong software engineering and production system expertise, grounded in technical fundamentals and best practices, while actively promoting secure and modern development approaches.

You’re able to translate requirements into efficient software solutions, and design and implement scalable, reusable systems for medium to large, defined problems, following established best practices.

Nice to have:

experience with Java

proficiency with databases (SQL/NoSQL),

experience with cloud deployments such as Azure, GCP or AWS;

experience with software stacks used in machine learning inference.

understanding of medical imaging standards, such as DICOM and/or PACS;
