The Materials Evaluation Lab (MEL) Lab Technician is responsible for preparing, measuring, and analyzing samples in the Materials Evaluation Laboratory. The technician will perform routine maintenance on lab equipment and keeps a clean work area.
Major Duties And Responsibilities
Performs routine sample preparation and data analysis on Lab equipment.
May construct components or assemblies of experimental apparatus or prototype models.
May assist with the operation of complex systems under the direction of an engineer or advanced technician. Systems and sample preparation duties may include 3D Imaging, Image Analysis, Tensile, Hardness, Machining and Metallography Equipment.
Carry our routine maintenance, troubleshooting or repair of equipment.
Other related duties as assigned.
Education
Associate degree in Materials Science or related field, plus relevant work experience is desired.
Skills And Qualifications
Works under general supervision.
Conducts assigned tasks in a safe manner.
Must be capable of operating basic computer software such as Excel and Word.
Must be capable of communicating status of projects or make oral reports to internal peer groups.
Has demonstrated the ability to assist with the construction of complex mechanical, electronic, metallurgical equipment.
Experience operating band saw, drill press, and other powered equipment.
Experience with manual lathe or milling machine.
Willing to work safely with acids, solvents, and compressed gases
Ability to communicate well with people inside and outside the immediate work area.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 40 pounds on a regular basis.
Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
