Willamette Connections Academy is a tuition-free, K–12 online public school that students attend from home. Sponsored by Scio School District, Willamette Connections Academy is state certified and open to students throughout Oregon.

Position Summary:

The 12-Month Instructional Coach is a key leadership role that supports teacher growth and student achievement in a virtual learning environment. Working from your home office, the coach will serve as a mentor, facilitator, and collaborator, partnering with teachers and school leaders to improve instructional practices, enhance student engagement, and align teaching strategies with school improvement goals. This position also includes direct management of teacher managers, supporting their leadership development, coaching effectiveness, and accountability to instructional outcomes. The role involves professional development planning, individualized coaching cycles, and supporting school-wide initiatives during both the academic year and summer planning periods.

Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Support
    • Partner with teachers in 1:1 and small group coaching cycles focused on instructional goals and student outcomes.
    • Observe virtual LiveLessons and provide timely, actionable feedback aligned with best practices for virtual instruction.
    • Facilitate data-informed planning sessions to analyze student achievement trends and guide instructional decisions.
    • Model effective virtual teaching strategies and tools.
  • Professional Learning
    • Design and deliver professional development sessions based on teacher needs, school priorities, and instructional trends.
    • Support onboarding and mentoring of new teachers throughout the school year and summer months.
    • Create and maintain instructional resources aligned to state standards, school frameworks, and student needs.
  • Leadership & Supervision
    • Manage and support teacher managers to ensure consistent coaching, performance feedback, and alignment with school priorities.
    • Provide leadership development and resources to strengthen the effectiveness of teacher managers across grade levels.
    • Collaborate with administrators, department leads, and student support teams to align coaching and instructional leadership with school-wide goals.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Use data from student performance, observation trends, and teacher feedback to evaluate coaching impact and adjust supports.
    • Stay current with research-based practices in virtual education and instructional coaching.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education (Master’s preferred)
  • Valid teaching license (Oregon licensure preferred or willingness to obtain)
  • Minimum of 3–5 years successful teaching experience (virtual preferred)
  • Previous coaching, teacher leadership, or instructional management experience strongly preferred
  • Preferred experience working with Connections Academy or a similar virtual school model
  • Strong understanding of virtual instruction, student engagement, and data-driven instruction
  • Experience managing leaders or overseeing instructional teams is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a virtual environment

Work Expectations:

  • Full-time availability year-round, including summer planning and professional development
  • Ability to attend virtual meetings and trainings during standard school hours
  • Must work from a dedicated home office with reliable internet and minimal distractions
  • Occasional travel for school events, graduation, or in-person PD (as needed)
  • Must be able to use a personal electronic device and an email address for two-step authentication.
