A Production Chemist II is responsible for the manufacture of Sirigen products, including polymer synthesis, post-polymerization modifications, polymer purification, and polymer processing. Additionally, the Production Chemist II will support the scale-up, documentation, and process improvements with their technical knowledge in polymer chemistry.
This position will be expected to execute responsibilities with a large degree of autonomy requiring minimal oversight by immediate manager. Individual must be comfortable working in cross-functional teams under defined deadlines. The successful candidate will have experience with polymers, conjugated polymers, organic synthesis, macromolecule separations, and analytical characterization with excellent attention to detail and ability to follow SOPs.
Duties & Responsibilities
Perform synthesis of standard Sirigen products using standard air-sensitive techniques along established technical SOP’s.
Perform established reactions to convert/activate functional groups on final polymers
Perform a variety of polymer processing, purification and characterization steps to support the production of commercial dyes.
Purify aqueous polymers using common biochemistry techniques (filtration, SEC, etc.)
Remove solvent via rotary evaporation and/or lyophilization
Characterize polymer size by GPC/SEC chromatography using established standard processes
Perform small scale dye labeling reactions according to established standard processes.
Perform functional testing to qualify raw material for use.
Work collaboratively with R&D, Process Development, Quality Control, and other Production Chemists/Supervisor to ensure successful transfer of new products into Production.
Documentation in lab notebooks, batch records and basic databases
Promote a safe work environment. May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment. Participates in Environmental Health and Safety programs. Addresses corrective actions whenever a hazard is identified. Notifies supervisor of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices.
Other responsibilities or projects as assigned by reporting manager.
Education & Experience
Successful candidate will possess a M.S. degree in Chemistry with a minimum of 2 years of experience in an industry synthetic chemistry lab or a B.S. in Chemistry with 3+ years of relevant work experience.

Solid MS Office Knowledge, Intermediate to Advanced Excel usage, and proficiencies in ChemDraw is required.
