Course Description:

Healthcare is a strongly regulated industry. The course will examine how governance structures influence healthcare delivery and promote patient safety and optimal patient outcomes. Through case examples and guest speakers students will learn how to determine the effectiveness of governance structures. Students will have a chance to review and critique governance structures and identify the essential contributors to strong and stable healthcare governance. Ethical management principles impact and inform decision making in healthcare and help to guide leaders through critical events with competing interests. The course offers examples of ethical frameworks and uses speakers and case examples to assist students in the application of these frameworks.

Requirements:

Must have an MBA/MHA or Master’s degree (PhD preferred) in an area directly related to Governance and Ethics within healthcare organizations. Must also demonstrate recent professional experience in the field of healthcare management or healthcare delivery. Must possess sound knowledge of governance and ethical issues in the area of the course. This course is delivered primarily asynchronously. Demonstrated experience in the development and/or delivery of asynchronous course content would be considered an asset.
