Job Summary

Under the direction of the Engineering Lead, the Automation Mechanical Engineer will work as an integral part of the team to complete continuous automation projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research while developing and designing mechanical components, equipment, and automated systems; Plan, direct, and coordinate project activities to achieve quality, cost, and timing goals.
  • Work closely with Controls Engineers to integrate mechanical solutions with PLCs, robotics, vision systems, and smart sensors for cohesive, optimal design automation solutions.
  • Identify and deploy breakthrough mechanical solutions that enhance efficiency, scalability, and labor optimization.
  • Utilize deep expertise in mechanical design, motion systems, and automation integration to ensure smooth integration with existing systems.
  • Collaborate with Electrical, Manufacturing, and Product Development teams to ensure design feasibility, automation readiness, and system reliability.
  • Act as a Manufacturing SME in new product development (NPD), providing guidance on design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and design-for-automation (DFA).
  • Design custom mechanical tooling and machinery for precision forming, assembly, and material movement.
  • Apply knowledge of automated sheet metal fabrication (laser cutting, forming, bending, welding).
  • Deliver mechanical solutions incorporating hydraulic and pneumatic actuation as needed, consolidating where appropriate for performance and simplicity.
  • Validate the performance of designed automated systems.
  • Help drive and support BCT's Culture and Core Values.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D software.
  • Demonstrate ability to successfully design equipment to function, budget, and timelines.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet company objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal & written skills with desire to be an active team member.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with computer skills MS Office, MS Project or Smartsheet.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Certified Automation Professional certificate a plus.
