Onsite

Working arrangements will be at the discretion of the assigned work area, subject to operational need. Due to the nature of  operations, not all work areas can accommodate work from home. Most roles are based in Canberra. However, we may be able to accommodate candidates in the Melbourne, Brisbane or Perth facilities. No other locations considered.

Job details

We require multiple APS6 equivalent System Administrators to fill positions across the organisation. Must have NV1, NV2 or PV clearance for positions. 

Systems Administrators perform and achieve system administration work within an integrated workforce.

ASD expects the candidates will provide detailed systems administration, technical, professional and policy advice in relation to complex work and contribute to strategic planning, program and project management and policy development.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Accountable to perform routine installations and de-installation of items of hardware and software according to the Australian Signals Directorate and organisation policy and procedures.
  • Provide advice and specialist guidance to colleagues to ensure best use is made of available assets and to maintain or improve the installation service.
  • Work collaboratively with the team and contribute to solutions and goals of a non-routine or contingency nature.
  • Design and implement solutions to issues impacting on the achievement of desired outcomes.
  • Solve issues for a defined range of unpredictable problems following established operating policies and procedures.
  • Accountable for installation projects, providing effective team leadership and ensuring the information flow to and from the stakeholder during project work.
  • Build and sustain effective working relationships with team members and actively participate in teamwork and group activities.

Technical skills

• Holds a Degree in Computer Science or related field. • Proficient in operating systems, networking, database management, and security protocols. • Proficient in installing, repairing, and maintaining network systems. • Proficient in programming languages.

Essential criteria

1. ITOP 4 - IT infrastructure: Level 4 (SFIA) Provides technical expertise to enable the correct application of operational procedures. Contributes to the planning and implementation of infrastructure maintenance and updates. Implements agreed infrastructure changes and maintenance routines. Uses infrastructure management tools to determine load and performance statistics. Configures tools and/or creates scripts to automate the provisioning, testing and deployment of new and changed infrastructure. Maintains operational procedures and checks that they are executed following agreed standards. Investigates and enables their solution of operational issues. Provides reports and proposals for improvement, to specialists, users and managers.

2. DESN 4 - Systems design: Level 4 (SFIA) Designs system components using appropriate modelling techniques following agreed architectures, design standards, patterns and methodology. Identifies and evaluates alternative design options and trade-offs. Creates multiple design views to address the concerns of the different stakeholders and to handle functional and non-functional requirements. Models, simulates or prototypes the behaviour of proposed system components to enable approval by stakeholders. Produces detailed design specifications to form the basis for the construction of systems. Reviews, verifies and improves own designs against specifications.

3. HSIN 3 - Systems installation and removal: Level 3 (SFIA) Installs or removes hardware and/or software, using supplied installation instructions and tools, including handover to the client. Uses standard procedures and diagnostic tools to test installations, correct problems, and document results. Records details of all components that have been installed and removed. Assists users and follows agreed procedures for further help or escalation. Contributes to the development of installation procedures and standards.

4. SYSP 4 - System software: Level 4 (SFIA) Monitors system software metrics and adjusts configurations for optimum availability and performance. Reviews system software updates and identifies those that merit action. Configures system software for required functionality and performance. Investigates and resolves system software problems, requesting action from supplier if required.
