About the Internship

 

The Milken Institute is seeking a part-time paid intern to support the Milken Institute’s initiatives in economic mobility, particularly in support of initiatives regarding veterans and military families. The intern will work with the Executive Director of MI Finance on key issues, facilitating and providing opportunities for economic mobility for workers and entrepreneurs, particularly in areas of finance, technology and security. In particular, this work will involve directly engaging on and understanding the economic needs of military service members, veterans, and their families, and the economic issues faced in transitioning out of military service in supporting the Milken Institute’s Veterans’ Community Initiative. The position requires some familiarity with macroeconomic or demographic data, and a major in economics, statistics, or a related area is recommended. Military experience is a definite positive. The intern will work closely with teams in Santa Monica and Washington, DC, as well as partners around the U.S. to perform the above and other duties as assigned. 

 

Candidates should possess the following characteristics:

 

  • A strong interest in economic research 
  • Experience with issues of the U.S. military, including those of active-duty service members, veterans and their families.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to multi-task while handling complex projects in fast-paced environment
  • Self-starter and hard worker displaying high productivity and follow-through in all areas of responsibility
  • Team-oriented individual who seeks out tasks when work is completed and assists co-workers to ensure goals, requirements and deadlines are achieved
  • An attitude of "no job is too small" and an attention to detail that ensures rewarding experiences and outcomes for supporters and other stakeholders
  • Skilled at working with people and able to interact positively with all levels of an organization
  • Effective oral and written communication abilities
  • Ability to use critical, creative thinking to solve problems large and small

  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint is a must.
