Course Description:

We are seeking a part-time professor to teach SED1511: Personal Development and Communication Skills for students in the Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Design program at the Faculty of Engineering, School of Engineering Design and Teaching Innovation, University of Ottawa. This course, delivered in French,
focuses on equipping students with essential skills and strategies for
success throughout their undergraduate studies, emphasizing personal growth, effective communication, goal setting, time management, stress management, resilience, and foundational problem-solving and research skills.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and deliver engaging lectures and interactive activities
on personal development and communication skills
• Guide students in setting academic and personal goals, and teach
effective time management strategies
• Introduce and facilitate exercises focused on stress management
and resilience-building
• Teach and assess effective communication techniques, both
written and oral
• Introduce structured problem-solving approaches, with an
emphasis on problem identification and research skills
development
• Assess student performance through assignments, presentations,
and reflective exercises
• Provide constructive feedback to support student learning and
growth
• Hold office hours to assist students outside of class

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Education, Psychology,
    Communication, Engineering, or a related field
    • Fluency in French (written and spoken)
    • Proven teaching experience at the post-secondary level
    • Strong understanding of personal development, communication
    skills, and student success strategies
    • Ability to mentor and support students in their academic and
    personal growth
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with student advising, coaching, or mentoring in a
    university setting
    • Familiarity with research methods and structured problemsolving
    frameworks
    • Experience teaching resilience, stress management, or personal
    effectiveness
    Please note that this position requires teaching in French.
