Health, Safety & Compliance Coordinator

We are hiring a full time, temporary (up to 12 months) Coordinator, HSE & Compliance position working out of Edmonton, AB.

The HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) Coordinator is responsible for providing health & safety and compliance support across Energy Services, our customer care business unit that supports EPCOR’s call center. With a focus on office-based operations, this role delivers technical guidance, education, and leadership to ensure a safe and compliant work environment for employees working both on-site and remotely.

What you’d be responsible for

• Contribute to Energy Services’ strategic planning and maintain effective cross-functional relationships
• Conduct workplace inspections, ergonomic assessments, and respond to HSE-related inquiries
• Design and deliver safety materials, training programs (e.g., site orientation, ergonomic training), and HSE communications in alignment with corporate standards
• Develop, track, and analyze HSE performance metrics using ERS (Event Reporting System) data to identify and implement improvements
• Monitor near-miss reports and lead investigations into workplace incidents to identify causes and implement corrective measures
• Provide expert consultation on work observations, inspections, risk assessments, hazard analysis, and job planning
• Lead critical initiatives such as operational targets and health-focused campaigns
• Represent the organization during external audits (e.g., Alberta Labour, CoR)
• Ensure alignment with EPCOR HSE policies and legislative requirements, including emergency response planning and execution
• Collaborate with Abilities Management on WCB claims and accommodations. Track and analyze claim data to support trend identification and historical documentation
• Oversee the work from home (WFH) safety program, including ergonomic assessments, emergency planning, and compliance with OH&S standards. Represent the company in WCB reporting for remote incidents
• Conduct ergonomic evaluations and provide actionable recommendations to improve workplace safety and comfort
• Maintain and enhance BCP documentation. Support response efforts during outages and integrate emergency response strategies
• Manage records in accordance with retention protocols and compliance requirements
• Support corporate HSE initiatives and lead the Energy Services’ HSE committee and drive related initiatives

What’s required to be successful

• Relevant post-secondary education in health and safety; education in ergonomics is an asset
• Relevant professional designation would be an asset (e.g. CRST, CRSP, CSP)
• Minimum of 1-3 years’ Health & Safety experience in corporate or office operations
• Strong knowledge of office ergonomics and musculoskeletal disorder prevention strategies
• Extensive knowledge of occupational health, safety and management systems
• Strong knowledge of the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety standards and government regulations
• Proven ability to implement safety programs and drive operational improvements
• Proficient in SharePoint, Microsoft 365 (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel) and Teams
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills, and professionalism
• Experience with group facilitation and teamwork
• An aptitude for leadership, with a commitment to work positively in a team dynamic, respect and build on the strengths of peers
• An ability to coach and reinforce effective behaviours and performance 
• Ability to use EPCOR systems (Oracle, ERS) would be considered an asset
• Demonstrated experience:
  • Communicating requirements, business strategy and feedback to co-workers, employees, subject matter experts, vendors and management
  • Working within an HSE reporting system or similar software
  • Collecting, storing, analyzing, tracking and reporting performance data (eg. incident and/ or near miss report findings, audit actions, etc.)
  • Implementing HSE improvements and effective process solutions aligned with government and corporate standards
  • Reporting and data analysis
  • Working with confidential information
