As a Designer, you will help build on our current successes in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Together with your colleagues in the marketing, publicity, cover art, and editorial departments, you will bring to life standout campaigns for our best-selling books, series, and brands like Hilo, Grumpy Monkey, Wonder, and more!

Random House Children’s Books is the worlds largest English-language children’s trade book publisher. We create books for toddlers through young adult readers, in all formats from board books to activity books to picture books, novels, graphic novels, and nonfiction. The imprints of Random House Children’s Books bring together award-winning authors and illustrators, world-famous franchise characters, and multimillion-copy series.

Reporting to the Art Director, the ideal candidate will be a creative, collaborative, and enthusiastic designer with strong organizational and time management skills. The Designer will simultaneously manage motion graphic projects and digital content to support marketing efforts across web, social, and email platforms, as well as printed promotional collateral, point-of-purchase (POP) displays and signage. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a variety of projects and genres in the children’s book industry.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Design high-visibility campaigns focusing on Middle Grade, Picture, and Board books. This includes both printed and digital marketing materials supporting advertising and marketing campaigns such as activity kits, merchandising/POP materials, mailings, short form video, and social media assets
  • Develop fresh concepts in collaboration with campaign teams while ensuring visual consistency across various campaign touchpoints
  • Create and/or edit animated social media assets and videos
  • Manage and delegate campaign design work to out-of-house freelance talent as needed
  • Prep files for final printed or digital release and manage the archiving of your files once released
  • Self-motivated, able to prioritize while working independently as well as part of a larger team with colleagues
  • Work closely with Book Design staff to gather most up-to-date assets and with Production staff to ensure all projects are on spec
  • Remain current on illustration, design, technology, and publishing trends

Please apply if you meet the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of design experience with a keen interest in design for highly illustrated properties and products
  • A portfolio exhibiting an excellent design ability, including strong type design and layout—illustration skills a plus
  • Ability to work conceptually and to work well under pressure with internal and external stakeholders to meet deadlines
  • in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, and Premiere
  • Experience with color correction, retouching, and preparing files for output, both digital and print
  • Knowledge of file preparation for motion graphics in short form video
  • Self-motivated, able to prioritize in a fast-paced environment and can work as well independently as on a team
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Understanding of basic UI and UX principles and experience working with Adobe XD and/or other prototyping software a plus but not required
