The Opportunity

This position, Informatics Sr Principal Program Manager works out of our Abbott Rapid Diagnostics Cardiometabolic and Informatics Division. This role can be remote for the right individual or in Lake Forest, IL.

This is a highly visible role that will be responsible for driving process excellence across Abbott’s Diagnostics Division. This includes designing, implementing, and continuously improving the software development lifecycle process and standard operating procedures within the Informatics division.

What You’ll Work On

Responsible for project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and closure, with an emphasis on structured documentation, quality alignment, and process standardization. Key performance indicators for this include improved process documentation and efficiency, consistently organized and documented releases, and enhanced compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.   

  • Provide day-to-day strategic oversight, leadership, and decision-making

  • Review and prioritize work requests and competing projects based on established criteria

  • Lead complex projects from initiation to completion

  • Define project requirements, establish plans, allocate resources, and manage schedules, risks, and contingencies

  • Evaluate existing SOPs, templates, tools, and documentation to meet initiative objectives and recommend improvements

  • Anticipate, identify, and resolve project-related issues; manage scope changes and implementation

  • Oversee team performance, assist with conflict resolution, and contribute to performance evaluations

  • Conduct gap analyses to identify inefficiencies in workflows, systems, and tools

  • Create, manage, and update technical and project documentation

  • Present project status updates through reports and presentations to team members and leadership

  • Plan and schedule project deliverables, goals, and milestones

  • Collaborate with Quality to support the effectiveness of the Quality Management System

  • Develop and implement unified process architecture, SOPs, documentation standards, and release frameworks

  • Serve as lead on internal and OEM/co-development programs in compliance with Quality and Regulatory requirements

  • Manage product release processes in alignment with internal policies and procedures

  • Ensure effective release management for development projects and on-market products

  • Assess release risks for programs and existing products

  • Oversee technical and non-technical staff in defining and documenting development and release processes

  • Lead development efforts using industry frameworks such as SAFe Agile, CMMI, and ITIL

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Global Marketing, R&D, IT, Quality, Operations, Regulatory, Business Development) to enhance process efficiency and release activities

  • Work with a broad range of internal and external technologists and support personnel

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in a large-sized corporation

  • 8–10 years of experience in:

    • Software process improvement

    • Enterprise release management

    • Agile coaching or related roles

  • Demonstrated expertise in:

    • SAFe, ITIL, and CMMI frameworks

    • Relevant certifications (where applicable)

  • Solid understanding of ISO standards:

    • ISO 9001

    • ISO 27001

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with:

    • Structured enterprise release management processes

    • Documentation in regulated environments

  • Exceptional:

    • Analytical and problem-solving skills

    • Documentation and communication abilities

  • Industry experience in:

    • Healthcare, pharmacy, or similarly regulated sectors 4+ years in a similar role

  • Proven ability to:

    • Coordinate release management across multiple business areas

    • Map out process flows in highly complex, regulated environments

  • 10+ years of experience in:

    • Quality Management

    • Process expertise

The base pay for this position is

$127,300.00 – $254,700.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
