Location
We are a U.S. based organization and most of our staff work remotely. The Manager, Research and Evaluation will travel up to 30% of the time on an as-needed basis.

About the Role

The Manager, Research and Evaluation will play a key role in designing, implementing, and promoting program evaluation and quality improvement efforts across SHP’s initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Evaluation and Quality Improvement, this position will support data collection, analysis, and interpretation to enhance program impact and further SHP’s mission.

Additionally, 25% of the role will be dedicated to supporting the Policy Research and Evaluation Team, contributing to research, data analysis, and reporting for the SHP Action Fund. The ideal candidate is an experienced evaluator and collaborative team member with a strong analytical mindset, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Job Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

Evaluation Design & Implementation

Support the planning and execution of evaluation projects aligned with SHP's Theory of Change.
Contribute to the development and refinement of logic models, outcome measures, and data collection tools.
Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to implement evaluation and quality improvement activities.

Data Collection, Analysis & Reporting

Conduct qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods data collection and analysis under the direction of the Director.
Draft data summaries, visualizations, and reports that translate findings into actionable insights.
Assist in preparing internal evaluation briefings and contributing content for grant reports, external presentations, and publications.

Support to SHP Action Fund (25%)

Partner with the Associate Director, Policy & Research to support evaluation activities tied to SHP Action Fund programs.
Contribute to the development of data tools, literature reviews, and policy-aligned evaluation briefs.
Help ensure that policy-focused evaluation activities are rigorous, equitable, and aligned with SHP's overall evidence-building efforts.

Collaboration & Quality Assurance

Coordinate with cross-functional teams and site-level staff to support evaluation planning and fidelity.
Support quality control and consistency of third-party vendor materials, tools, and findings.
Maintain evaluation documentation, dashboards, and knowledge management systems.

Capacity Building & Training

Assist in developing training materials and light-touch coaching for program teams around data collection and utilization.
Help foster a learning culture by promoting the use of evaluation findings in ongoing program improvement.

Travel & Field Support (30%)

Travel to support data collection, observation, training, or collaborative planning sessions across program sites, as needed.

Desired Skills and Experience

Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., public policy, education, social sciences, public health) is required.
3–5 years of experience in program evaluation, applied research, or continuous quality improvement, ideally within education, human services, or community-based organizations.
Demonstrated experience conducting evaluations or supporting research in policy, advocacy, or action fund contexts.
Familiarity with both formative and summative evaluation approaches, including logic models and theories of change.
Proficient in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting both qualitative and quantitative data.
Working knowledge of at least one data analysis tool (e.g., Excel, SPSS, R, NVivo).
Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences.
Experience working with or supporting third-party research or evaluation partners.
Background or knowledge in education, social-emotional learning (SEL), or trauma-informed practices.
Familiarity with continuous quality improvement (CQI) frameworks and REDI (Race, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) principles.
Excellent communication, organizational, and project coordination skills.
Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
Strong commitment to trauma-informed, equity-centered, and culturally responsive evaluation practices.
A commitment to SHP's vision and values.
Performs other duties as required.

Benefits and Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000.
(SHP follows a strict internal rubric to help guide salary placement and ensure equitable pay amongst new hires and current staff. New hires should expect to be brought on at the start of the range, except in extenuating circumstances.)

Our organization operates within a distributed workforce, allowing for location flexibility across the country for most positions. We provide remote office support for all staff, which includes a laptop, home office reimbursement, monthly Wi-Fi reimbursement up to $40, and monthly cell phone reimbursement up to $50.
