Your north star is simple: turn readers into paying, staying, raving fans. You’ll own the end‑to‑end consumer monetization funnel—acquisition, activation, retention, upsell, and everything in between—for print, digital, membership, and yet‑to‑be‑invented products. What you’ll do:

Your Mission

Growth Strategy

Craft, launch and continuously refine a data‑driven plan to 5× subscriber and member revenue over the next three years. Set bold hypotheses, then break them (or prove them) with ruthless A/B testing to build profitable, scalable growth.

Acquisition Engine

Scale performance marketing, SEO, referral, partnerships, and on‑platform conversion flows. You’ll tune CAC like a Formula 1 engineer tunes lap times.

Retention & LTV

Manage and optimize onboarding, lifecycle messaging, automations, and surprise‑and‑delight moments that keep churn low and drive referrals.

Product & Pricing

Collaborate with editorial, product, and data teams to invent new offers (bundles, gifting, micro‑subscriptions, events) and find the price elasticity sweet spot.

Insights & Analytics

Partner with our Data and Analytics team to own the dashboards. Segment audiences, model cohorts, predict churn—then translate that math into plain‑English action plans.

Cross‑Functional Leadership

Lead a scrappy squad of marketers, growth hackers, and CRM specialists. Rally editorial, product, and brand partners around consumer obsession.

Budget & Vendor Management

Allocate an annual marketing budget across paid channels, mar‑tech, and partners—then squeeze every penny for ROI. Build and manage annual budgets and quarterly forecasts - ensuring we’re optimized and on-track. 

Culture of Experimentation

Institutionalize a “fail fast, learn faster” ethos; ship at least one live test per week. If a hypothesis survives, scale it. If it dies, harvest the learnings.

Compliance & Trust

Ensure every touchpoint meets CASL, PIPEDA, and SJC’s own gold standard for privacy and brand safety.


We’re looking for

  • 8 + years leading consumer growth for a subscription, e‑commerce, or media brand; at least 3 years managing a high‑performing team. Hands-on experience using or building AI agents, research and automation tools to improve effectiveness is a must.. 
  • Track record of beating CAC/LTV targets and crushing churn with lifecycle marketing, first party audience optimization, and pricing tests.
  • Deep understanding of what drives consumer behaviours with the ability to position insights into highly impactful customer value propositions. 
  • Comfort interrogating data and challenging sacred cows—politely, but relentlessly. 
  • Experience in Canadian media is a positive; an obsession with high‑quality journalism is mandatory. 
  • Strategic communicator who can distill complexity into one-page briefs—and persuade skeptics with evidence, not buzzwords.
  • Proven track record of achieving your targets, being resourceful and bringing an owner’s mindset to everything you do.

Success looks like

  • +20% YoY subscriber growth across print & digital.
  • < 15% annual churn within 12 months. 
  • Paying‑reader revenue makes up a third of the business top-line.  
  • A team that says, “I learn more here in a month than I used to learn in a year.”
