Job description

“At CommBank we are proud to support flexibility, let’s discuss what this means for you”

In Financial Services, we support the Group’s strategy of building tomorrow’s bank today for our customers, through a focus on three key priorities of trust, resilience, and capital generation. Financial Services partners with all areas of CommBank to specialist advice, support and services in finance, audit, treasury, property, procurement, climate strategy, and investor relations.

The Capital and Regulatory Reporting Change team is within Group Finance and is responsible for providing capital guidance and overseeing the delivery of all Capital Changes including revisions to the capital and regulatory reporting frameworks.

Do work that matters

This role reports directly to the Executive Manager Capital Change.

You will work within an experienced team who are responsible for ensuring the bank’s capital engine (GTRS) is correctly calculating capital, as required under APS 112 and APS 113. The team uses the PACE approach, with squads primarily comprised of Finance and Technology SMEs. To successfully perform this role, you will need to build relationships with  business and risk stakeholders across the Group.

You will be responsible for working through any changes required to the capital engine including those arising from:

  • Changes to existing source systems,
  • The introduction of new products or systems,
  • And the refinement of existing capital treatments

See yourself in our team
This role is fluid and requires the ability to balance requirements and demands from multiple stakeholder groups, including APRA, reporting teams, and business units.

The role includes, but is not limited, to the following:

  • Working with credit policy to support implementation of any changes required in GTRS arising from changes in capital regulations or interpretations
  • Working alongside reporting teams, risk teams, business units, and technology stakeholders, to understand the requirements needed to develop solutions which correctly calculate capital under APS 112/113. Solutions may be required due to changes in upstream systems, introduction of new products, or implementation of new credit risk models;
  • Propose a solution addressing these requirements, considering the likely impacts on capital measures;
  • Implementing changes within the business rules engine, or working alongside developers to implement the solution, as needed;
  • Ensuring test results are as expected, including socialising test outcomes and and obtaining sign-offs;
  • A large amount of ad-hoc work, including assessing the capital treatment of new products, and assisting with APRA and ABA requests; and
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct sets the standards of behavior, actions, and decisions we expect from our people.

We’re interested in hearing from people who have

  • Sound knowledge of regulatory capital and/or reporting standards, credit risk modelling techniques and financial systems experience;
  • Relevant IT, Finance or Risk tertiary qualifications along with recognised industry certifications;
  • Experience in a banking, finance, or risk role (5 plus years);

  • Innovative and able to drive results across multiple stakeholders with different views;
  • Ability to translate complex topics into digestible information;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Experience with using SQL, SAS, Ab Initio or equivalent data software – someone who is comfortable with embracing new technologies to resolve complex problems;
