Zero Emission Master Technician

100% Remote within California, Must reside in California 

We are seeking a Zero Emission Master Technician to join FoundationCCC in its mission of benefitting, supporting, and enhancing the California Community Colleges—the largest and most diverse system of higher education in the nation. What You’ll Do

The Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Master Technician provides specialized oversight and technical expertise for the Zero-Emission Assistance Program (ZAP), serving California community members who have purchased used zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) or near-zero emission vehicles (NZEVs) through CARB incentive programs. The Master Technician ensures program integrity through verification of diagnostic reports, repair invoices, and technical documentation while maintaining the highest standards of professional service delivery, and exceptional knowledge of zero-emission vehicle technology.

A ZEV Master Technician must be able to effectively perform all aspects of the position while remaining calm and composed and be a professional Subject Matter Expert for battery electronic vehicles (BEVs), fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). even in the most difficult, high-pressure situations involving complex vehicle issues and consumer concerns.

  • Reviews and validates diagnostic reports, repair invoices, cost estimates, and technical documentation for battery pack replacements, fuel cell repairs and other critical component services.
  • Responsible for technical queries from consumers, service providers, case managers, and program stakeholders, and for internal communication with program management and regional staff
  • Builds and cultivates relationships with automotive technician education and training programs, approved service providers, and workforce development partners.

Attributes For Success
  • Proven ability to build and maintain personal and program credibility with technical service providers and consumers.
  • ASE: A6 (Electrical/Electronic Systems), A8 (Engine Performance), and L3 (Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Specialist) Certifications required. Current manufacturer certifications for major ZEV brands (Tesla, Nissan, Chevrolet, Toyota, Honda, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience with on-board diagnostics (OBD) systems, telematics devices for ZEV applications and safety procedures for high voltage safety.

Budgeted Annual Salary Pay Range:

$125,000.00 - $135,000.00

Final salary and rates are based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity.
