Financial Services partner with all areas of CommBank to provide specialist advice on financial management and strategy. This advice covers finance, audit, treasury, investor relations, security, general procurement and property.  

 

Retail Banking Services (RBS) Finance acts as a partner to the Retail Banking Services business unit and other business units (our customers) to help them succeed with the Bank’s goals and their business unit responsibilities.  

 

RBS and Bankwest Finance forms part of the Financial Services business unit. We provide financial governance, performance reporting, business partnering, analysis, insight and advice to the Retail Banking Services division of Commbank to drive business performance and optimise operational and strategic decision making. 

 

The Subsidiary, Third Party Banking and Capital Reporting team is responsible for the delivery of quality and timely financial reporting and controls services for a portfolio of RBS and its aligned subsidiaries, including the preparation of monthly results and reconciliations, periodic subsidiary board and other management reports, and financial statements for submission to ASIC. 

 

Do work that matters 

This role reports into the Home Buying Finance Manager and is part of the Home Buying Finance team. The role does not have any direct reports. 

 

The major work function of this role is the delivery of timely and accurate financial information for several RBS and its aligned subsidiaries.  

 

Other aspects of the role include maintaining a strong financial control environment and management of internal and external stakeholders, including Business Unit Finance teams, Company Secretariat, and the Group’s Auditors.  

 

The role will also involve analysing and interpreting home loans and capital data and assisting with regulatory capital reporting, leading ad-hoc projects to drive process re-engineering and embedding sustainable work processes.

The role includes, but is not limited, to the following:  

  • Preparing board papers, AFSL monitoring, income tax, financial statements and statutory reports for the relevant subsidiaries to ASIC, other authorities and to BU Finance teams.  

  • Execute on month end processing including accounting journals, reconciliations and half and full year group consolidation packs for the CBA annual report.  

  • Delivery of any operational processes specific to the portfolio of subsidiaries.  

  • Extracting, analysing and interpreting home loans and capital data. 

  • Contribute to a diverse range of projects encompassing productivity/process improvements, system changes and other ad hoc project initiatives.  

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with clients in business units, Finance Services and with service providers.  

  • Providing superior service aligned with the needs and business objectives of the organisation.  

  • Actively contribute to process improvement, simplification, and cross-skilling across the RBS Retail Product. 

  • Undertake any other tasks assigned by the manager that can be competently and responsibly performed. 

 

We’re interested in hearing from people who have 

  • Knowledge of the financial reporting framework and strong technical accounting skills 

  • Strong verbal, written communication skills and critical thinking skills 

  • Proficient in Excel 

  • Strong teamwork capabilities / management of group tasks  

  • Proven ability to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously 

  • Experience in data extraction and analysis tools is desirable but not essential 

  • Risk Mindset – All CommBank employees are expected to proactively identify and understand, openly discuss and act on current and future risks 

  • Graduate qualifications in a numerate discipline preferably finance, business or economics 

  • Post graduate qualification (CA/CPA) and experience in financial reporting role 

  • Banking or Financial Services experience preferred but not essential
