About the position:
The mission of the Americares Free Clinics is to provide quality health care to low-income, uninsured patients in a setting where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect.Americares opened its first clinic in 1994 to expand access to care for the working poor. Over the years, our program has grown to become the largest free clinic network in the state with four locations serving 2,000 patients annually. Today, our clinics in Bridgeport, Danbury, Norwalk and Stamford are the primary source of free medical care for the uninsured in Fairfield County.
This role will work within the Americares values, work culture and mission to provide oversight of the Quality Improvement program (75%) and the education for our staff and volunteers (25%). This role will ensure that we are continually evaluating our current processes to improve them, as well as remain in compliance with regulatory requirements and contribute to the operating plan and goals of Americares Free Clinics.
Key Outcomes:
In the first 90 days, the Manager will:
- Learn and live the Americares values.
- Complete all required new hire onboarding trainings.
- Complete evaluation of the current QI program and evaluate the needs for studies moving forward
- Demonstrate understanding of the Athena EMR regarding documentation, current areas of need, and reporting capabilities
- Evaluate current orientation and education practices
- Begin to take over and supplement the current education practices based on AFC needs
In the first 6 months, the Manager will:
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the current QI program and independent implementation of the plan moving forward
- Demonstrate a full understanding of and a thoughtful plan to implement a comprehensive education package inclusive of orientation through yearly education
In the first year, the Manager will:
- Demonstrate a complete understanding of the QI program, including all elements of our quality measures and outcomes
- Independently start and complete necessary QI studies
- Independently select, manage, evaluate, and implement the solutions and innovations resulting from multidisciplinary improvement projects with sustainability
- Provide independent oversight of the staff and volunteer education with successful orientation and ongoing education for all staff
Duties and Responsibilities:

Quality Improvement (75%)
- Work closely with the Executive Director and Senior Director, Clinic Operations to ensure overall compliance with yearly operating plan and goals
- Oversight of the Quality Improvement Program for the Americares Free Clinics
- Collaborate with information services, vendors, department managers, frontline staff, and outside organizations on obtaining accurate, reliable, and timely data supporting performance improvement activities
- Identify opportunities to automate processes for optimization and increased efficiency.
- Develop and maintain documentation to facilitate knowledge management and ensure continuity of data products deployed by the department throughout the organization
- Promote the integration of best practices into existing systems and assist with data collection tools.
Education (25%)
- Development and provision of orientation for new hires, and required yearly education.
- Provision of education that is resulting from quality improvement projects.
Degrees and/or experience required for the role:
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in clinical quality improvement
These competencies are required for the role:
Demonstrated understanding of quality, safety, and clinical performance data and statistical methods
Proven experience with successful quality improvement projects involving multidisciplinary teams that demonstrate sustainability over time.
Proficiency with EHR systems to understand documentation requirements, clinical workflows, data availability and reporting abilities
Demonstrated ability to work and communicate well with teams while having the ability to take initiative.
Ability to develop key deliverables such as standardized time sensitive reports and ad hoc / custom requests, using professional and concise presentations that will allow for data driven decisions to be made.
Demonstrated organizational skills that will assist in keeping accurate records to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
US work authorization is required for this role.

- Prior experience in a free clinic or FQHC
- Prior nursing experience and/or active RN license
