Who We Need:
We’re seeking a business-minded Product Counsel to join our growing legal team. This role is ideal for a lawyer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is excited to work closely with product, engineering, marketing, and design teams to bring innovative products to market while managing legal risk and compliance.
What You’ll Do
Serve as the primary legal advisor to product and engineering teams on the development and launch of new features and services
Provide strategic and pragmatic guidance on a range of product-related issues including privacy, data protection, IP, consumer protection, and regulatory compliance
Draft, review, and maintain user-facing legal documents, including Terms of Use, Privacy Notices, Acceptable Use Policies, and in-product disclosures
Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to assess risk and drive compliance solutions at every stage of the product lifecycle
Review product-related public communications, including marketing claims, and terms of service
Support incident response teams when security or data privacy issues arise
Stay current on relevant laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, AI regulations) and translate them into actionable guidance
Collaborate with the broader legal team on commercial, privacy, and compliance initiatives
Skills You’ll Need to Have:
J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar
5+ years of relevant legal experience, including at least 3 years at a reputable law firm with a focus on technology or privacy
Strong experience drafting and updating Terms of Use, Privacy Notices, and other customer-facing legal content
Deep understanding of U.S. and international data privacy laws and digital product regulations
Proven ability to work cross-functionally and influence without authority
Practical, risk-balanced approach to legal problem-solving
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
A collaborative spirit, low ego, and a sense of humor
Nice to Have
Experience supporting products that use AI or machine learning
Knowledge of open-source licensing and IP issues in a SaaS environment
International legal experience (especially in the EU, UK, or Canada)
