Project Summary:

The purpose of Nicaragua Youth and Communities Secure, Empowered and Resilient (NYCSER) is to empower youth and their communities to acquire the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to become resilient and better equipped to advocate for their own best interests and security in the current national context of social and political instability and discrimination, including by actively participating in their communities’ and nation’s decision-making.

Position Summary:

The Technology and Education Specialist will provide innovative approaches to lead efforts in distance and blended learning design and delivery. S/he will work as an integral part of a collaborative design team to design, develop, deliver, and evaluate training courses and organizational development activities. S/he will apply best practices in instructional design and the use of educational technologies, including course platforms, e-learning courses, videos, virtual Instructor-Led training (vILT), Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and other learning products, with a focus on incorporating a variety of media and learning methods to create an effective learning environment. 

Reporting and Supervision:

The Technology and Education Specialist reports to the Education and Learning Manager

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Designs distance and blended learning courses, using creative, innovative and evidence-based approaches;
  • Develops dynamic, experiential virtual learning session designs including macro designs, micro designs and training and producer scripts;
  • Works with subject matter experts to develop distance learning programs;
  • Works with clients to conduct learning assessments including research, document reviews, telephone interviews, and focus groups;
  • Facilitates virtual learning events;
  • Brings leading-edge thinking, methodologies, and approaches to integrate distance learning applications into trainings and convenings;
  • Responds to on-demand requests that focus on curriculum development and the use of technology; and
  • Collaborates with cross-objective managers to digitize content.

 Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Curriculum Design, Organizational Development, Communication, Instructional Design, International Development or other related fields;
  • At least three (3) years of experience designing and delivering distance learning activities and programs for international audiences;
  • At least five (5) years of general work experience;
  • Experience in the field of international development and, in particular in education for peace, civic education, and in working in cross-cultural environments;
  • Knowledge of the principles of learning including adult learning, experiential learning, participatory methods, instructional design, Appreciative Inquiry, and whole systems design;
  • Strong planning, organization, critical and strategic thinking and problem-solving skills; and
  • Exceptional communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills with a dynamic, engaging facilitation style.
