Job description

HMT’s Inspection Department is seeking a detail-oriented AutoCAD Technician to support inspection projects in the Above Ground Storage Tank (AST) and piping sectors, with a primary focus on piping inspection. This role is responsible for producing high-quality CAD drawings and documentation to support field inspection activities. While prior CAD experience is preferred, entry-level candidates with strong computer skills and relevant industry exposure are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create accurate and clear 2D and 3D AutoCAD drawings to support piping and tank inspection reports.
  • Primarily support piping inspection projects, while also assisting with above ground storage tank inspection documentation.
  • Interpret field data and inspector input to develop or update site-specific piping and tank layout drawings.
  • Collaborate with inspection teams and project managers to ensure drawing accuracy and consistency with industry standards.
  • Maintain organized drawing files and project documentation.
  • Troubleshoot drawing issues and proactively resolve discrepancies or missing data.
  • Provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications (Experienced Candidates):

  • 2+ years of drafting experience, with proficiency in AutoCAD (2D/3D); experience with 3DPlant, Visio, or similar design software is a plus.
  • Previous experience supporting inspection or engineering projects in the industrial or oil & gas sector.

Entry-Level Consideration:

  • Candidates with limited or no AutoCAD/Visio experience may be considered if they demonstrate:
    • Strong computer skills and a willingness to learn drafting software.
    • At least 6 months of industry-related experience (e.g., working in oil & gas, construction, or industrial environments).
    • Ability to follow technical instructions, communicate effectively, and manage workload in a fast-paced setting.

Additional Requirements:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or collaboratively.
