Accountant

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in North Yorkshire to assist with the appointment of an Accountant, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £22.70 - £28.78 per hour

Summary:

As part of the Councils wide-ranging transformation programme following re-organisation from April 2023, we are seeking qualified accountants to provide high-quality financial support to service managers across various directorates. The successful candidates will play a key role in budget setting, in-year budget monitoring, financial forecasting, and year-end financial accounts, while contributing to broader strategic and transformational financial planning.

Responsibilities:

• Support transformational change projects, providing financial insight and modelling to aid effective decision-making.
• Prepare financial statements, statutory returns, and ad-hoc financial reports as required.
• Support the development of business cases and financial models to evaluate commercial ventures or service redesigns.
• Ensure financial management practices align with council policy, professional standards, and regulatory frameworks.
• Use a range of financial systems and ensure integrity of data, accuracy of reporting, and adherence to internal control frameworks.

Qualifications:

• Full or part-qualified accountant (e.g. CCAB/CIMA or equivalent).

• Proven experience working in a financial management role within a local authority or public sector organisation.
• Experience in analysing complex financial data and providing advice to service managers.
• Demonstrated ability to support and influence decision-making in a professional and constructive manner.
• Experience of working on financial aspects of transformation or service improvement projects (desirable).
