Job description

Mercor is working with leading AI research labs to recruit experienced Recreation Workers, especially those with a background in government or public-sector recreation programs, as independent contractors. In this unique role, you’ll contribute your knowledge of community engagement, activity planning, and recreational programming to help train and refine cutting-edge AI systems.

You'll help ensure AI understands how to simulate real-life recreation scenarios—from community events to camp programs—supporting the development of tools that could enhance how public recreation departments operate and engage the public.

What We're Looking For:

  • 4+ years of experience planning, organizing, or running recreational activities in government-run settings (e.g., local parks departments, city community centers, after-school programs, senior centers)
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • Designing and leading group activities such as sports, arts and crafts, drama, music, games, or outdoor programs
  • Working with diverse populations (e.g., youth, seniors, veterans, or individuals with disabilities)
  • Coordinating with volunteers, vendors, or public agencies
  • Promoting programs through flyers, social media, or community outreach
  • Familiarity with program planning tools, registration software, or incident reporting systems commonly used in public recreation

What You’ll Do:

Design realistic recreation scenarios for AI training, such as:

  • Organizing summer camp schedules
  • Planning inclusive holiday events
  • Responding to incidents during activities
  • Coordinating volunteers or managing facility usage

Create prompts that simulate tasks like:

  • Drafting a weekly recreation calendar
  • Communicating safety protocols to participants
  • Handling participant registration or complaints
  • Managing resources and supply orders for programs

Help AI researchers understand:

  • Terminology, workflows, and challenges in public-sector recreation
  • Cultural and logistical nuances of designing inclusive, engaging activities
  • Review AI-generated content to ensure it’s accurate, empathetic, and aligned with real-world community programming

Why Join This Project:

  • Fully remote and flexible — contribute on your own schedule
  • Approximately 15 hours/week for 3–4 weeks
  • Collaborate directly with AI teams working on tools that may one day support public recreation programs
  • Shape how AI systems understand and assist in community engagement and enrichment

Compensation & Engagement Details:

  • Competitive hourly compensation, adjusted based on your experience and location
  • (U.S. rates available on request; international rates vary)
  • Paid weekly via Stripe Connect
  • Role is a contractor engagement (at-will)
  • Visa Note: We are currently unable to support H1-B or STEM OPT candidates
