Role Summary
ProVeg Portugal is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven Project & Commercial Lead to oversee a food project and drive the strategic development of commercial partnerships and market pathways that strengthen the economic viability of plant-based protein value chains in Portugal.

This hybrid role combines business development and commercial strategy with hands-on project management. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with key stakeholders to unlock economic opportunities for legumes such as grass pea, chickpea, and lupin.

You will be instrumental in bridging agricultural production with market demand, conducting economic viability and pricing analyses, and building a compelling business case for investment in sustainable, plant-based food systems. Additionally, you will ensure smooth coordination of the project’s implementation, maintaining strong communication with partners and delivering all milestones on time.

Responsibilities
Business Development & Commercial Strategy
  • Identify and engage potential buyers, distributors, and partners for legume-based products and crops.
  • Consider business models and go-to-market strategies for new plant-based food products (e.g., legume-based cheese).
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to co-design commercial plans and investment roadmaps.
Stakeholder & Market Engagement
  • Build partnerships between farmers, producers, industry players, and local decisionmakers to ensure smooth product distribution.
  • Represent the project in industry meetings, B2B events, and trade shows.
Economic Viability, Pricing & Data Analysis
  • Conduct brief economic and market analyses, including price and economic viability assessments, to evaluate the profitability and scalability of legume crops and derived products.
  • Contribute to the development of cost-benefit assessments and business cases that demonstrate the added value of plant-based proteins for companies.
  • Work with the impact team for a broader project evaluation.
Reporting & Communication
  • Prepare internal reports on business outreach progress.
  • Contribute to policy recommendation documents by highlighting economic insights from the field. Ensure that commercial insights and economic data directly inform policy recommendations and stakeholder engagement efforts.
  • Support communication and dissemination activities with commercial data and insights.
Food Project Co-management
  • Act as project focal point, liaising with project national partners. 
  • Maintain and monitor the project Gantt, ensuring all deliverables (milestones, reports) are on schedule.
  • Organize regular coordination calls, track action items, and update internal tracking tools.
Qualifications
Required:
  • 3+ years in business development, commercial strategy, agri-food, or food innovation.
  • Degree in economics, business administration, sustainable food systems, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of plant-based food and agri-food systems.
  • Experience building B2B partnerships, especially in Portugal or Europe, and value‑chain development.
  • Native in Portuguese and professional English.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication and networking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required.
  • Based in central Portugal.

Preferred:
  • Familiarity with EU‑funded projects.
  • Previous engagement with industry, municipalities or local authorities on product distribution or procurement.
