Job Summary

The Department of Electrical Engineeringin the College of Engineering, at the University of Texas at Arlington, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the field of power systems. The successful candidates will work on federally funded research and development projects on virtual power plant and cybersecure distributed control. The candidates will conduct collaborative research with other universities, national labs, utilities, vendors, and Electric Reliability Council of Texas ( ERCOT ). The candidates will have chances to support the first-of-its-kind Aggregated Distributed Energy Resources ( ADER ) pilot project in Texas.

Required Qualifications

  • Holding a PhD’s degree in the area of power and energy systems.
  • Good experience in one or more of the following topics: power system stability and control, power system modeling and simulation, inverter-based resources, distributed energy resources, distributed control and optimization, control system and theory, hardware-in-the-loop simulation.
  • Good experience with one or more of the following tools: MATLAB / SIMULINK , RTDS / RSCAD , PSCAD , PowerFactory, PSS /E, OpenDSS.
  • Expertise in hardware-in-the-loop simulation is highly preferred.
  • Experience in writing scientific research articles.

Preferred Qualifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performing deep fundamental studies to investigate virtual power plant technologies and their impacts on both wholesales electricity markets and distribution systems.

  • Build the communication and control infrastructure using Internet of Things to mimic modern virtual power plant technologies.
  • Build a control hardware-in-the-loop distribution system simulation and evaluate the performance of virtual power plant under various communication network traffic condition.
  • Study various cybersecure control frameworks and their technical feasibility in virtual power plant application.

The successful candidate is expected to be knowledgeable on inverter control techniques and electric power system operations. They should understand the current state-of-the-art approaches and methodologies for integration of distributed energy resources and distribution system management. Further, this position requires excellent writing and communication skills to disseminate completed works through publications in high-quality journals and conferences. The successful candidate will also follow all Environment, Safety, and Health policies and procedures to ensure and maintain a safe working environment.
