Welder (TIG)

Rugged Science, located in Sparks MD, is looking for a strong candidate to be a key player in fabricating high quality industrial and military products. Our fabrication team is in need of a full-time welder who can produce quality parts using TIG welding or laser welding techniques. Prior experience with laser welding is not required but a desire to learn a new skill and advance your welding knowledge is a must! 

• Manufacture and fabricate finished aluminum products out of 1/16” to 3/16” thick material 
• Interpret engineering blueprints to ensure parts meet all technical requirements 
• Ensure finished parts are cosmetically acceptable without impacting structural integrity 
• Calculate material measurements to verify specifications
• Conduct tests to evaluate weld quality and tolerance
• Maintain and repair welders
• Assess welded surfaces and components for defects or errors
• Utilize hand grinders and sanders to finish part after welding
• Follow safety rules and wear proper PPE
• Track time and parts through ERP system 
• Complete other duties throughout Shop as needed

Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in TIG welding, manufacturing, or other related fields
• Familiarity with welding machinery, tools and procedures
• Familiarity with AWS B2.1, AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.2
• Familiarity with reading and understanding blueprints and tolerances
• Vision acuity of 20/30 or greater
• Ability to handle physical workload – (lift to 50 lbs)
• Outstanding attention to detail
• A valid certificate from an accredited institution is a plus
• Prior experience with laser welding is a plus
