Job description

The Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion (BACI) is a community living organization that supports people with developmental disabilities across the life span to live a ‘good life.’  Our Community Inclusion (Day Program) is looking for a Community Support Worker to work with people to pursue activities in the community based on individual interests, gifts, and defined goals.  This role supports people to become active members of the community, discovering and engaging with places of belonging.  

POSITION: Regular Part-Time Community Support Worker

LOCATION: New Westminster - Community Based

SALARY: $25.95/hour

HOURS: 30 hours/week 

SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 9am-3pm 

Responsibilities: 

  • Support people in small group-based settings. 
  • Ensuring that individuals are connected to friends and family.   
  • Providing individuals with the opportunity to make meaningful choices.   
  • Encouraging and recognizing individuals' contributions.   
  • Ensuring that individuals are safe and to promote their health and well-being.   
  • Assist individuals to gain knowledge and experiences to enhance their independence and/or ability to participate in their community.  

Qualifications: 

  • The ability to work effectively both as a team member and independently is essential.  
  • Experience and specialized training related to autism, medical needs and/or challenging behaviours is an asset.  
  • Knowledge and ability to use alternative communication systems would be an asset.  
  • Knowledge of principles of Person-Centered Thinking and Planning preferred  
  • Working knowledge of computers/mobile apps is necessary.

This position requires union membership and completion of Criminal Record Search as per the Criminal Record Review Act and up-to-date vaccinations. A valid unrestricted BC Class 5 Driver’s License and use of personal vehicle are required.
