Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Patient Accounts Specialist to join our hospital team in Atlanta. In this vital role, you will be responsible for managing patient accounts, ensuring accurate billing, and providing exceptional customer service to our patients regarding their financial responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical billing practices, insurance processes, and a commitment to patient satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and process patient bills and claims accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits.
  • Resolve patient billing inquiries and discrepancies with empathy and clarity.
  • Communicate effectively with insurance companies to follow up on claims and resolve denials.
  • Process payments, adjustments, and refunds.
  • Assist patients with understanding their statements, payment options, and financial assistance programs.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient financial records.
  • Collaborate with clinical departments and other administrative staff to ensure seamless patient care and billing.
  • Stay up to date on relevant billing regulations, compliance guidelines, and insurance policies.


Requirements

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in patient accounts, medical billing, or a related role within a hospital or healthcare setting.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding.
  • Proficiency with medical billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex billing information clearly and patiently.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to resolving issues.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient privacy and HIPAA compliance.
