Job description

Summary of Position: 

The Specialist IV, Facilities Buyer is responsible for working with the Basins Facilities Engineering Team and overseeing the procurement of equipment and material used in production operations. This includes sourcing, negotiating, and managing relationships with suppliers to ensure the timely acquisition of high-quality equipment at competitive prices. The role requires an understanding of the production processes, equipment specifications, and vendor management, along with a focus on cost-effectiveness and operational efficiency. 


Primary Job Responsibilities: 

  • Equipment Procurement: Lead the sourcing, evaluation, and procurement of production equipment, materials, and related items to meet operational requirements and production needs.
  • Vendor Selection & Negotiation: Identify and evaluate suppliers, negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions to secure the best value for the company while ensuring high-quality standards.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, ensuring on-time delivery, reliability, and ongoing support for equipment and service needs.
  • Cost Management: Ensure compliance with budgetary guidelines while identifying opportunities for cost savings and optimization.
  • Contract Management: Review and negotiate contracts with equipment suppliers, ensuring favorable terms and conditions, including warranties, maintenance, and service agreements.
  • Technical Specification Management: Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to define the technical specifications and requirements for new equipment, ensuring compatibility with current systems and production processes.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee the inventory of equipment and materials, ensuring optimal levels are maintained and promptly replenished when needed.
  • Risk Management: Identify risks related to equipment procurement and implement mitigation strategies, including contingency plans for equipment failures or delivery delays.
  • Market Analysis & Trends: Stay informed on market trends, new technologies, and innovations in production equipment to recommend improvements and upgrades that can enhance production capabilities.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Safety: Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines when sourcing and using production equipment.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Prepare reports on procurement activities, equipment performance, and expenditures, presenting data-driven insights to management.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to understand equipment needs, troubleshoot problems, and ensure alignment with overall production goals. 

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies 

  • In-depth knowledge of production equipment and related purchasing strategies.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience in vendor management, ensuring cost-effective procurement and timely delivery.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to address equipment-related issues and procurement challenges.
  • Proficiency in procurement, Enverus OpenInvoice Platform, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental practices.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, with frequent collaboration across multiple departments.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of the Permian Basin and current suppliers/vendors, including yards, warehouses, and fabrication shops.

Education & Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 8+ years' experience in procurement, purchasing, or sourcing, with at least 3 years in a senior or leadership capacity.
  • Certification in procurement or supply chain management (e.g., CPSM).
  • Experience with capital equipment purchasing and strategic sourcing.

Travel & Additional Requirements:

  • Location: Work is performed at a CIVI location Monday through Thursday with the option of working remotely on Fridays.
  • Schedule: traditional 40-hour workweek or alternative schedule of 9-hour workdays Monday through Thursday and 4-hour workdays on Friday, as business needs allow and with manager approval.
  • Travel may be required to other Civitas offices and field locations.

Base Pay Range: $130,000 - $150,000
